If you like him because of the Paxman interview...
(Anonymous) 2010-10-09 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)Everynow and then, Russell Brand says something seemingly clever and everyone is thrown. Sure, it would be nice to believe that such vapidness is all an act but it isn't (some of it is, but not all).
He really is incapable of making his own opinions, he just spouts out whatever he thinks will make him charming to whoever he's with.
He uses a survival method that involves mimicking and adapting your persona to your audience. He reinvents his identity according to each situation which is an admirable trait but makes it difficult to grasp who he really is, as his image changes with time and trends.
I think he's very damaged from his tough childhood then serious drug abuse: he can't sit still, he's desperate for attention and can't define his own identity for himself.
Britain is hardly lacking in brilliant, witty, shocking and audacious comedian men but this one is getting the spotlight and I find that sad. He's a brilliant cameleon and I think he could be a fascinating character if he wasn't so all over the place.
