As an artist who's had artist friends all her life, both superior and inferior, I say get over it. Sure it sucks being the one with less talent, but it sure sounds like the friendship you found is worth it.

Think of your friend. Is it fair of you to do this? Encourage him/her in their art and ask for advice if you want to improve.

Someone will always be better than you, you might as well get use to the humility.

god, iawtc so much. B'awww someone is better than me. There's how many people in the world? It's going to happen. You don't have to be the best, but if you want to, WORK ON IT. Seriously, practice practice practice, and shit or get off the pot.

There's some saying I've heard in the past that basically goes like... a true friend is happy when their friend is successful, not jealous. I seriously question the OP's feelings if they act like this.

well that must be very nice for you and your friends. I think the vast majority of people do though, and while it's obviously an undesireable character trait, it's not like the OP is a huge bitch for thinking what most of us think now and then. You are being a bit holier-than-thou.

Nah, they're not being anything. They're just telling the OP what any other sane person would tell someone who's jealous of a close friend: Get over it. Yes, people get bitter at dear friends sometimes, but holding onto that jealousy is a very nice and effective way of damaging a friendship.

So, seriously, OP, if your friend means that much to you, man up. You're not supposed to feel inferior or superior in a friendship; aim to be equal.

I always rationalize it by telling myself that I like being around people who are smart and talented and interesting and if that means I feel insecure sometimes I need to suck it up because it's worth it to have those people in my life.
