As a true hero among men once said: "women lack the capacity to be brutal." The fandom is full of women. If A and B, then C. Fandom + Full of Women = Not Brutal. EVER.

You don't like it? Find another show to bitch about. You obviously don't care enough to go un-anon and talk about this. So excuse me while I write my slash fanfiction and enjoy the fuck out of my experience with this show while you mope about how the fandom isn't what you wanted. I'll forget that this happened in approximately 4 hours, because I'll be too busy having fun. Meanwhile, you'll still be bitching when season 5 starts.

[identity profile] curiosityband.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
Tellu - you are awesome.

[identity profile] bamf-girl.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Not the OP, but the "god how dare you not be satisfied while I'm having fun" attitude is probably the exact reason why they didn't attempt to discuss in-fandom.

[identity profile] telluryan.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't say "how dare you" anything. What I'm saying is, if they don't like it, they should work toward making the fandom what they want it to be instead of just whining anonymously about it. Sure it sucks to be in the minority, but unless you're finding ways to entertain yourself and those who are WITH you in that minority, you're just wasting your time trying to be in a fandom that you probably don't really want to be in all that badly in the first place, because it's not going to suit your tastes unless you make it that way.

[identity profile] bamf-girl.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
Not everyone just pull shit out of their ass to entertain themselves with, though. It's pretty easy to tell someone who can't draw or write to just draw and write to entertain themselves and fill their own niche.

And I don't know about you, but I find it's always more entertaining to look at what other people have done, instead of just sitting quietly in the corner and staring at the work I've produced. What's the point of being active in fandom if you're only looking at and enjoying your own work?

I'm not sure why someone who can't help contribute is someone who doesn't want to be involved. I can't contribute much of anything in the way of fic or art or graphics or whatever else, but that doesn't mean I don't want to be involved in fandom.

[identity profile] telluryan.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
You commented that you left the fandom. That was your choice. If this person wants to stick it out and try to find a niche that they belong in (which there IS, I'm sure, no matter how small it may be), then more power to them. I'm sure they'll find friends there, and I'm sure that niche will be happier to have gained another person. That niche exists, as evidenced by the amount of Metalocalypse secrets that shit all over the slash writers/artists for doing what they enjoy.

If these people are missing such a huge chunk of their lives by not being able to find the genfic/gen fanart that they're seeking, why don't they try making friends within the fandom and then requesting less slashy shit of them?? If someone politely requested genfic or gen art from any of the artists I know in the fandom, I can't think of anyone who would say no. Instead, I only ever find secrets about people silently angsting when I come to fandomsecrets. If these people can't provide for themselves but they still want to be as active as anyone else, they just need to make friends and nose around a little deeper. Sometimes you have to dig through the shit to find the diamonds. Real friends will have your gen discussions with you, if that's what you want. Not all of us are screaming, shit-throwing fangirls that must have our way or else.

I'm not sure what my leaving the fandom has to do with this..? Other than the fact I left the fandom for the same reason OP is upset?

I can't really speak for OP, but I think it's pretty rude to cozy up to people to get them to cater to my fandom needs. So maybe that's the reason, they don't just want to be interacting with people so they can get to the "oh by the way, will you stop drawing what you like for a minute and draw what I want?" Not everyone wants to make friends, and it's not as easy as that for some people. I have no idea if OP has actually been trying to do that (interact with people, dig through old fics or whatever, etc), or if they are just blowing smoke out their ass, but the tone of this secret and others like it make me think it's the former.

how is coming to fandom secrets and bawwing in a secret that is pretty much rude by telling others in the fandom 'stop having fun like you want and do something so I can have fun' not any different?

um...wut?

[identity profile] bamf-girl.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It's different because you aren't being a douchebag directly to their face. It's still fairly douchey, but since fandom secrets is basically a place to bitch and moan, and is seperate from any fandom, I think this would be the place to do it, rather than making a tit of yourself in the community.

[identity profile] mschievousness.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been watching this thread with morbid curiosity just to see where all this arguing goes and I feel I have to make a little point here.
Two criminals commit a crime, one gets caught and one doesn't and gets away with it. So which criminal is the better guy?

Neither. They both did a shitty thing.

I guess it's a little better for people that they don't have to deal with that in CLDK but still.. wanting an entire fandom to change to suit your tastes and bitching about it in FS is kind of a dick move. :/
(I'm not talking about you, I'm talking about the OP)

[identity profile] telluryan.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
What anon below said, and...

I wasn't saying that you should make friends solely to demand that they use their talents to please you. I was saying that decent human beings will care enough about their friends even on the internet to provide them with the things that make them happy. But if you took "lol you should rip people off on the internet and be a selfish dick because there's no such thing as real internet friends" from my comment instead, maybe that is what a friendship really is to you (???)

If you don't want to make friends, then why are you bothering to be in fandom in the first place? Fandom is a place to find people who share your interests. And there is always someone who likes the same thing you do, no matter how small the fandom or that part of the fandom is. If you ask around, you will find someone.

If you can't find people who share your interests in fandom, but you don't want to make friends anyway, then what is really the problem? Do you really want to talk to complete strangers that you don't even want to know on a personal level about the technical side of music or instruments or something and not give a shit at all about emtional responses to the source material and just say to yourself "lol it's the Internet why even bother with these idiots"? Because if you want that, I'm sure there are straight-up music forums and shit floating around that you can go to to get your dick rubbed.

Not to sound like an epic bitch, but maybe it's better if someone like that isn't in the fandom. Because someone who claims to not be interested in finding people to relate to and enjoy the source material with, and yet still bitches about how no one else likes the shit that they do about the show just sounds like a huge troll to me.

[identity profile] bamf-girl.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Fandom is a place to find people who share your interests.
Yes, a place to find people who share your interests, but not necessarily to befriend. I have a big distinction between those I would call a friend and those who I casually comment with in fandom. So no, not everyone goes to fandom to make friends. Casual acquaintences or what have you, but not necessarily a friend.

"Do you really want to talk to complete strangers that you don't even want to know on a personal level about the technical side of music or instruments..."
Yes. Not everyone gives a shit what everyone else's ~emotional response~ is. Again, you don't have to bffl with people to have a fuckin' discussion with them, and I'm not sure why you seem to think everyone needs to be friends with everyone else in order to have competent discussion. I assure you, it's entirely possible to talk to people about what's happening in fandom and not give a shit about what else is happening in their life.

Not to sound like an epic bitch, but maybe it's better if someone like that isn't in the fandom.
And I'm sure that's exactly the reason this secret was made. How dare someone not want to discuss and become a part of fandom in the cookie cutter way that you demand.

I'm not demanding that anyone "conform" to anything. I'm just saying that 99% of the people in active fandom ARE there to socialize and make friends. And you don't have to give a huge shit about what's happening in someone's life to be a friend to them, dude. Internet friends are generally different from IRL friends, at least in my experience. You can enjoy talking to someone and sharing things with them without knowing the innermost secrets of someone's life. You don't HAVE to be BFFLs to be, you know, friends.

As for my second comment, I still stand by what I said. If you want to talk to someone about the technical side of things/the music more than you want to talk about the characters, there are places outside of Livejournal to get that sort of thing. Do I know of any? No. But that's because I'm satisfied with what I've found here. And if you must have that bit of fandom on Livejournal, make the comm yourself. Even if you can't draw or write, obviously you know how to discuss/argue, and that's all it really takes to start something. And that seems to be what you want to do, anyway, since you are still being hateful about the fact that other people are enjoying themselves in this fandom and you can't seem to do the same.

....my fandom is full of women, and there are some hella brutal fanfics :/

[identity profile] telluryan.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I was making a joke in reference to the show to prove a point...I don't actually believe that :)
