So you stopped spending money on American comics to spend money on Japanese comics and that's some big secret? Okay.

[identity profile] lljscrawls.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty much what I came here to say. Just because they're Japanese doesn't mean they're not comics. OP's still buying comics. They're just not American comics.

I have no clue whether you mean you NEED to save money and you're not or whatever, but I fully support you in buying actual comics/manga rather than reading them online. Thanks for keeping creative professions alive.

I'd suggest you buy manga used to save money. [livejournal.com profile] garagesalejapan is a pretty decent resource, on average if something's not out of print you can get manga for $3-$5 apiece plus shipping.

Awesome. Thank you anon!

you could get it from the library. I save a shitton of money by using interlibrary loan.

If you can't find a used bookstore (which is where I used to hunt for deals), try buying your manga used on amazon. It's a lot cheaper

[identity profile] caterfree10.livejournal.com 2010-10-10 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
This. Used bookstores are AMAZING. I just need a job so I can afford more myself. |D

Seconding the library. There's a surprising amount of manga in my library system, and if manga gets more popular, the library will buy more.

"but I still like having a book to hold".

Absolutely. I dread to think how many times I have /willingly/ lost money because I'de rather spend money in a bookshop than online. i'd be willing to bet it was hundreds of pounds. Hundreds. And I just can't stop.

[identity profile] rabidsamfan.livejournal.com 2010-10-10 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
The first great thing about a paper library is that you can't lose it because your computer died.

The second great thing about a paper library is that you don't have to stop reading because your batteries died.

The third great thing about a paper library is that you own it, and the only person who can decide to make it unavailable suddenly is you.

Go for it, OP

Speaking as someone who just moved house ... eBooks/comics have their good points too :D They're a lot less heavy for a start lol.

[identity profile] xenafox.livejournal.com 2010-10-10 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
I am with you in preferring a book in hand. I prefer to read comics/stories on the couch or in bed...and I don't have a laptop.

Straining my eyes to see if I can spot Ouran somewhere.
