Related secret: I've been developing this pet peeve recently where whiny fan brats decide not to see or just bitch about a movie because their favorite pet actor wasn't picked for the role they wanted. The sheer entitlement of it all really blows me away every single time.

(Anonymous) 2010-10-09 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, fuck you. Casting is important.

OP: Oded may not be Iranian, but he's a helluva lot closer to being a prince of old Persia than Jake Gayinthehall. (Iran has a sizable Jewish population.)

Jake Gyllenhaal is Jewish, though. His mother is Jewish. Still, I agree with you because he's not Sephardic

[identity profile] jlh.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, but no movie is entitled to have me see it. If a movie stars some actor I don't care for, or has a plot that isn't for me, I won't see it. Like, I'm not seeing the Facebook movie because I don't really like Aaron Sorkin that much. So … yeah, why does that make me entitled?

It's so weird, this fandom thing where if you don't consume everything possible you're a brat.

I wouldn't pass on The Social Network just because of Aaron Sorkin. I went to see it last night not expecting much (I wanted to see a movie and there wasn't much else to choose from that struck my fancy) but all I can say is that it totally exceeded my expectations.

[identity profile] mama-terra.livejournal.com 2010-10-10 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
My husband and I went to go see it with some friends. He and Brian didn't like it and Anna and I did. We think it's because we actually use facebook and they don't so it holds more interest for us. It was a little long and seemed to drag in a few places, but I laughed, and felt bad, so all around; Good Movie.

It's not really about facebook, though, it's more about the way that entrepreneurship in the United States has changed drastically in just a lifetime (noted by the fact that Eduardo, who was a business major at Harvard, really had no idea how to handle an internet business at all). Aside from that it's your basic story of betrayal between friends, etc. My husband hates facebook and he actually liked this movie more than I did

[identity profile] jlh.livejournal.com 2010-10-10 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
That isn't really the whole reason; I'm not that into Facebook and there's stuff in there about the alma mater that just sounds weird, so it's generally not my cuppa. That was just an easier example to make.

I'm just saying, I'm not required to see a movie, and if I don't see one I'm not being entitled.

[identity profile] joereaves.livejournal.com 2010-10-10 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
It's not entitled to choose not to give your money to a company that does something you don't like, whether it's the entertainment industry or any other. The OP can chhose to spend their time and money however they choose for whatever reasons they choose.

(Anonymous) 2010-10-10 10:37 am (UTC)(link)
I don't see how it's entitled. It's not like we, as the audience, owe Hollywood anything by watching their movies or appreciating their actors.

And besides, who has never seen terrible movie casting and thought, "damn, that would have been so much better with [insert name here]"

[identity profile] jdgrl47.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't see Prince of Persia because it looked really not interesting, but I would have if it starred Oded Fehr. Unf.

(Anonymous) 2010-10-10 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think I'd see it for Oded Fehr but I can't understand why he isn't a bigger star. Racism? Maybe, but I don't want to believe that. The man is drop dead GORGEOUS and he's a good actor and he's just primed for a good action movie role if someone would give it to him.

(Anonymous) 2010-10-10 10:42 am (UTC)(link)
This.

Oded is getting a little past his prime now and it's so disappointing to think he could have been a big leading star if someone had just given him the chance. He's sexy, got an amazing body and voice, and he's a stunning actor. I barely even recognized him in Resident Evil 2.

Plus, he'd make a more believable action star than Jake Gyllenhaal. Maybe I'm biased because I'm not a big fan of Jake and don't think his face is particularly appealling or masculine (omg!shallow!), but I just don't think he pulls off the "bad boy"/"action hero?/etc roles that Hollywood keeps trying to push him into. It doesn't suit him imo.

[identity profile] avocado-love.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Kinda silly to be basing all of your hopes on one actor for one part, but to each her own. I could see that guy as the Prince, if he bulked up a little. Or maybe the older brother, who looked more like a viking than a Persian. haha.

(Anonymous) 2010-10-09 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Or maybe the older brother, who looked more like a viking than a Persian. haha.

Heh, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that.

[identity profile] floatxxaway.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
unf. love that man. <3

also, totally didn't see Prince of Persia. don't really want to. but I would have for him.

[identity profile] wazira-sharira.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
well I guess I can be glad one less person saw the movie

even if it's some twit who thinks her own personal failcasting is less fail

he wasn't gonna rehash a character from ten years ago in a shitty video game movie, and it would still be failcasting if he was, so suck it up

you and the rest of your bandwagon

(Anonymous) 2010-10-10 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Damn! I haven't gotten around to seeing this movie yet, but now when I do (on dvd) I'll definitely be thinking of Oded! That man is definitely a prince!

[identity profile] eleusis-walks.livejournal.com 2010-10-10 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Ancient Persian royalty was actually pretty white. I am just puttin that out there.

[identity profile] eleusis-walks.livejournal.com 2010-10-10 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
i mean. not jake gyllenhaal white, but of all the racefail debates in fandom recently this is the one that made me go 'really?'

(Anonymous) 2010-10-10 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Jake Gyllenhaal's character wasn't technically a prince though. He was a street kid who the king adopted. So his race was never specified.

[identity profile] eleusis-walks.livejournal.com 2010-10-10 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, well, ignore me then!

[identity profile] alterai.livejournal.com 2010-10-11 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
I totally would have gone to see the movie if Oded had been cast as the Prince. Jake Gyllenhal just didn't seem right for the role.
The other day I saw Oded in an episode of Covert Affairs. That was a pleasant surprise, but it made me lose interest in the rest of the show since he wasn't in any other episodes, lol.
