I never feel like a loser (I know for a fact I am awesome) but I do get a little worked up, especially if their argument/reasons are lame and not backed up well. You can dislike something I like just...Jesus, can't we be nice about it in public areas?

Jesus, can't we be nice about it in public areas?

No! We have to bash things we don't like so that the things we do like will look better!

(Anonymous) 2010-10-09 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
The internet isn't a hug party! I love seeing people get all het up over silly arguments and resort to stupid personal insults, it brings me joy. If everyone was nice I would get bored ):

I love seeing people get all het up

What?

(Anonymous) 2010-10-09 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Worked up, angry. You could have googled it :T

(Anonymous) 2010-10-09 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Why should I? This is the internet, and on the internet I'm lazy. It's my right to ask people what they mean instead of looking it up myself.

In my internet world het = heterosexual.

(Anonymous) 2010-10-09 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
hah yes it is so much more effort to type three letters into the search bar than to go through the rigmarole of posting a comment and filling in the captcha and waiting for the reply ;D

but yeah that's what it means, maybe people use it more in the UK or something but afaik it originated in america

(Anonymous) 2010-10-09 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a lot more fun making people tell me what they mean. I like making other people do stuff for me. It amuses me. Waiting for replies keeps me from getting bored while waiting for something really interesting to happen.

Figures you're from the UK. My experience with UK people in fandom is that they're obnoxious bashers.

(Anonymous) 2010-10-09 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
ok well glad to have given you some replies you could look forward to then!

yes it's true, all UK people are soulless husks who can only get off by insulting other people. you should visit our country sometime, you'd love it

(Anonymous) 2010-10-09 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, don't be so hard on your fellow UK people, UK person! I'm sure it's just those of you who enjoy bashing who are soulless husks who can only get off by insulting other people.

Seriously though, an alarming number of British people I've met in fandom take great pleasure in character bashing. When asked to tone down the character bashing on a forum, an English dude even replied with "I'm British, I can't help it!" and kept right on bashing. He even got worse after that. What's up with that?

(Anonymous) 2010-10-09 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha I don't know! Well, we have conflicting stereotypes of being polite and reserved, and being hilariously rude and pessimistic and taking the piss out of all our friends mercilessly. I have to admit, almost everyone I know takes huge amounts of joy in being negative about things, even if they like the thing. People who can come up with witty, imaginative insults - even if those insults are directed at me - get huge respect from me. So maybe it really is a cultural difference!

(Anonymous) 2010-10-09 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, a HUUUUUGE cultural difference.

Sadly, none of the character bashers who say they live in the UK I've encountered have been witty or amusing, especially not the dude mentioned above. He just dislikes any character who doesn't have big boobs and a vagina (girls with small boobs are totally shallow characters with no personality at all!!!!!), and if a male character is seen as 'attractive' or 'manly' by large parts of the fandom, he just starts going on about how boring and 'fanservicy' the character is and how stupid and horrible anyone who likes the character is. Repetitive and annoying, and his tiny penis is totally showing.

I wish I'd actually met a UK person in my fandoms who could come up with witty and imaginative insults. Then at least their inability to just enjoy the characters they like and stop whining about there being characters they don't like would be funny to watch.

(Anonymous) 2010-10-09 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man. Sounds like he's just a douche then. Welp, you get 'em in every country unfortunately. Hope you meet some better UK people one day, I enjoyed reading your rant about the guy though haha!

(Anonymous) 2010-10-10 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
because the whole world isn't a shitty place right now to have assholes like you who just want some fun

(Anonymous) 2010-10-10 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
that sentence doesn't even make sense, try again

[identity profile] veronica-rich.livejournal.com 2010-10-10 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Me, I sort of like seeing people get slashed up on the Internets. Het up is fine, too, if they go well together.
