Good for you, OP, but I can't understand how a show having "fantasy elements" relates to slash.

Same? I don't get how slash has anything to do with fantasy elements

Thirding. I like the fantasy and I like the slash, but I don't see how the two things are particularly related.

Me neither.

OP here

I can totally see why you're confused, sorry about that.

'I usually watch shows with fantasy elements because I like the slash.'

One way to read that is quite simple. I simply enjoy slash that are found in shows with fantasy elements, because I enjoy it more than slash found in other categories.

The other way to read that sentence requires a longer explanation.
I'm one of those old school LGBT nerds who used to watch and read horror, fantasy and sci-fi movies & books back in the... well. It was quite a long time ago. (But I'm not ancient, I swear)
Anyway, back then anything related to LGBT in mainstream TV/movies/books/etc was hard to come by. But then there were the horror, fantasy and sci-fi movies. It wasn't hard for the viewer to find LGBT subtext in them - or even actual slash/femslash. These usually featured one or several characters who seemed a bit... odd. Out of place. Queer. Usually it was the villain or an unimportant side character. Also prominent in the movies were the themes and metaphors of sexuality (werewolves -> coming of age rituals, sexual awakening; vampires-> sexual lust). You can sorta see why a gay viewer would identify with the horror/fantasy/sci-fi elements better, yes? So by flocking to these movies, one could still participate in the conversations about said movies and at the same time secretly squee at the slash/subtext without feeling out of place. Thus, slash-fan nerds were thrown into the mix with the rest of the geeks.

Nowadays I hardly watch movies or read books with LGBT elements, so instead I focus on TV series. And I enjoy fantasy more than horror (IMO predictable, boring) or sci-fi (sadly homophobic still if you don't focus on the fans... Doctor Who seems to be an exception). So there you have it, my sorta long explanation.
