It's interesting when games suddenly make you feel guilty - I think that's really the defining feature that games have over books or movies. A book or movie is always going to be passive and can't make you feel bad about your actions (unless it's some kind of preachy An Inconvenient Truth type of thing). Personally I felt pretty terrible over a decision I made during Garrus' loyalty mission in ME2 and over some events in Planescape:Torment (don't wanna give away any spoilers so I won't elaborate!) ):

Oh man, I think I know the decision in ME2 you're talking about. Extra Credits (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Extra-Credits/127295683982334) talked about that extremely tough moral decision a few videos back and I was so stunned it that I'm not sure I could really choose what I would do and would HAVE to base it on how my character would roll.

Extra Credits is an awesome series anyway, so yay opportunities to plug! 8Db /brick'd

Oh man, I got really pissed off over the Geth decision. I spent a while thinking over it, and came to one clear conclusion that agreed with my own beliefs and values. I chose it, and instead of Shepard echoing what I was thinking, she basically went "LOL, I'M A HUGE VIOLENT RACIST, BLOW EVERYONE UP!". God damn it, no! That wasn't the reason I chose that!

I don't blame you! It's a lose-lose situation at its finest. And damn if either outcome doesn't make things unbelievably crazy. NGL, it makes me want to pick up the games to see where I'd go with it. Might have to get 'em used as I'm a poor college student right now, though. :V

I'm extremely curious as to which decision that was, hope you don't mind me asking :D

ME2 SPOILERS BELOW (OBVIOUSLY)
Well, whenever I play games, I find myself falling into the 'lawful good' sort of alignment - I always try to get the 'best' outcome, be diplomatic, nice to all my teammates, and always try to resolve issues without conflict. So in that loyalty mission, it was really a dilemma for me - do I let Garrus decide what he wants and go along with that, since he's perfectly capable of choosing revenge and has good reasons for it; or do I be overbearing, prevent him from shooting the guy, and risk pissing Garrus off and letting a criminal go free?

It was also very interesting because normally the player is the centre of the game universe and has the right to decide everything, but here I was doing someone else (a capable adult any a longterm friend) a favour and I didn't really have the right to interfere with their personal issues. Or did I, since I was the commander? Weird power dynamics going on there.

In the end, I let him shoot. And then regretted it for the rest of the playthrough. It was MY fault that Turian was dead, and maybe if I'd just kept talking, we could have solved everything...

(yes, I do like to overanalyse video games :D)
