There's a guy in the World's Finest (Superman/Batman) fandom that was brought in by his wife, too. He started by making icons she requested, then a few on his own, and then it kept snowballing. I'm pretty sure he has fic of his own now, and I know he helps run the different fic/art challenges and exchanges.
