While we're doing scientifically-unsound polls, might as well do this one too!

[Poll #1636721]

Only separated out the major/predominantly English-speaking nations because there are probably way more of even one of those than any of the others combined.

This isn't about politics, it's about geographical, physical location. You don't have to identify as an American to be from the US! Chill!

It's not as if some silly poll is important anyway, but lo! As soon as someone complains about U.S. centrism on anything on F!S, along comes someone to defend ye olde U.S. centrism by teling that someone they ought to get the fuck over themselves. Yes, way to prove the OP's point by going "Shut up other countries, you don't count." XD

Yeah we should all just lie or not vote so us Amurrikuns don't offend the delicate sensibilities of the special snowflakes around the globe.

It's a poll. It's about locations of readers. It's not "What's the best" or "where do you want to live". There are more Amercians here. Get the fuck over it.

Yeah we should all just lie or not vote so us Amurrikuns don't offend the delicate sensibilities of the special snowflakes around the globe.

Frankly you're making 0% sense in that sentence, unless what you mean is "Waaaahhh! I'm going to make up stuff nobody said!", so I'm just going to move on.

As for the rest, perhaps you should lead by example? Rather than being compelled at the first sign of any (oh no!) complaint about U.S. centrism to spring forth and constantly yell out "Get the fuck over it". It's not the end of the world, you know.

Diff anon--

Maybe people not from the US should stop bitching about everything that skews towards US Americans, and get over it.

The site is in English-language. What is the largest English-speaking nation in the world? There are more of those people on here than of others? OHNO IT MAKES SENSE DONNIT.

Congratulations, here is your U.S. centrist badge, you can wear it proudly. Continue on and whine about how you want people to shut up and make you feel more comfortable any time that anybody doesn't like U.S. centrism; you'll surely make yourself very popular with people outside the U.S.

so jealous~

(Anonymous) 2010-10-27 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
It is a handsome, shiny badge.

(Anonymous) 2010-10-27 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yay!

:pins:

UK and Canada = US?

(Anonymous) 2010-10-27 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Have you thought maybe it's not about US-centrism but that a majority of the people here are from the US, and technophile accounting for that?

Canada and the UK were specified as well - how is this US-centrism?

Re: UK and Canada = US?

Oh no, it's much easier to just cry bias and rail about how downtrodden you are.

(Anonymous) 2010-10-27 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Not trying to be US-centric, just pointing out the obvious. The double-standard, it BURNS US PRECIOUS.

What is the largest English-speaking nation in the world?

Actually I think it might very well be India now.

(Anonymous) 2010-10-27 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps anon could lead by example, also, and just not start?

(Anonymous) 2010-10-27 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, I'm here to complain about when after someone complains about U.S. centrism, there's a tendency for people to come out of the woodwork and wail on about how the US is the centre of the world and thus always deserves 100% of the attention, and how nobody is allowed to question this, as if they're somehow being personally threatened every time that happens. It happens all the time, and it's very silly.

You'll have to take the initial bringing-up of U.S. Centrism thing with someone else, I'm afraid.

(Anonymous) 2010-10-27 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Seeing as the US-centric thing had no basis whatsoever, it makes sense that people would complain?

I don't see this as people's knee-jerk reaction to accusations of US-centrism, I see it as their logical reaction to idiocy.

(Nobody is answering my how is also specifying UK and Canada, US-centric? question, either.)

(Anonymous) 2010-10-27 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't checked back, but as I saw it there was maybe one initial complaint about US centrism, and one complaint about North American and UK/Europe centrism. Then there were a bunch of people jumping around talking about how the OP of the US centrism comment there ought to get the fuck over it and how it's all justified by the US being in the majority and a large English-speaking country. Fairly standard overreactions.

(Anonymous) 2010-10-27 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Because in this context, it makes sense? They were complaining about the poll, and those were the reasons the poll was divided the way it was. Again, Canada and the UK as well, though the US-centric caller forgot to mention those.

In some instances, the one calling US-centrism is the one overreacting. This is one of those instances, I'm afraid.

Exactly.

(Anonymous) 2010-10-27 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, I see what you mean, and you do have a point, but I'm not entirely convinced. There was no real need for some of the people responding to that comment to freak out and get so defensive. Like the one who was telling people to get the fuck over it, the one going all "Maybe people not from the US should stop bitching about everything that skews towards US Americans, and get over it." or the one who wittered on about special snowflakes.

(Anonymous) 2010-10-27 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
he one going all "Maybe people not from the US should stop bitching about everything that skews towards US Americans, and get over it."

Er, I didn't mean that as America, Fuck Yeah; I was trying to be ironic to the person who suggested those US-defensive sort of people should lead by example and not say anything... but I'm from the USA, and my dry irony is unpracticed and doesn't always come through properly. ;)
