I don't know what to say. There's no denying that would hurt a whole hell of a lot, but... maybe I'm a terrible person, but I can't help but wonder WHY they told you to stay out of their fandom. You had some really stressful things happen in your life, but I seriously doubt anyone would be all like "Oh her parents had divorces/deaths in her family. Let's exclude her."

Be honest with yourself. Is there another reason why they wouldn't want you around?

All in all, though, that's beside the point. You now have three options: 1) Whine and cry and take your toys and shuffle off home, feeling hurt. 2) Join the fandom anyway under a different name. They'll never know unless you repeat the behavior that probably got you slighted in the first place. 3) Screw them. Jump in and live your life as you want it. Join the fandom and haters to the left and whatnot.

Think of this as a life lesson. You've been dealt a hard blow. The important thing is how you're going to act on it. Self pity or finding a way to move on. Choose wisely.

I am being honest with myself, and I don't know why. They won't tell me. And the reason I put in the stuff (divorce etc) is to show a bit better my feelings. That's the secret, that out of all of life's struggles and strife, a friend telling me they didn't want me in fandom hurt most of all. Kinda pathetic, but I thought others mind connect with it too.

At the end of the day does it even matter? Whatever reason they come up with probably isn't a good one.

Again, what matters is what you plan on doing about it.

Just a thought, but I wonder if there's something about their activities in this fandom that they don't want you to know because they know you IRL. Like a kink they have or some other thing they see as a major confession.

Either way, I like anon's options 2 and 3 because your best friend does not own the goddamn internet and possibly needs to realise that.
