Oh great, are we going to have Musical VS Book wank now?

Possibly, if I could be bothered to read the book. Way frikkin too long for me right now (and from what I've heard, too much of that is unrelated flaffle).

That's true. Half of the book is unrelated flaffle. The first few chapters are about how awesome the priest is, who does something and doesn't show up for the rest of the book. The first chapter of the second part is background stories of characters who all die a few chapters later. I mean, Monsieur Hugo, WTH!!!

Don't ask me why I read the entire thing. It wasn't for a school assignment. I did it entirely of my free will.

Me too. But I kind of love it for that. We no longer have books where in the middle of action the author is suddenly like, "And now, let's talk about the Battle of Waterloo, which happened before this story started..."

My memory of Marius/Eponine in the book was that he was so uninterested in her the only reason he even noticed she'd died saving his life was that he nearly tripped over her.

Yes, that's exactly how it was in the book. The author didn't care much for her, his head (like Marius') was far far up Cosette's dress. XD
