That's unrealistic?

I thought that was the way quite a few relationships work.

Especially sibling relationships, although, of course, they're a different kind of relationship entirely (... er... normally). ^^;

[identity profile] andromeda3116.livejournal.com 2010-11-05 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
This is pretty common, actually. I love bickering couples, and see it a lot in real life. Often -- although not always -- they're really healthy couples, because they aren't afraid to argue and don't tend to take everything so seriously, so they air out their differences without bottling things up like a lot of people tend to do. I ship all kinds of bickery couples, it's one of my favorite tropes. :D

Perfect icon for this topic is perfect! ♥

I <3 bickering because it's so much fun to write!

[identity profile] sarajayechan.livejournal.com 2010-11-05 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
That's...not unrealistic? Couples DO argue in real life.

[identity profile] homestar.livejournal.com 2010-11-05 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
That is my absolute favorite kind of ship. Conflict is always fun!

I like bickering couples, too, though I still have to see some other form of romantic chemistry, there -- because otherwise I could very well end up seeing it as sibling bickering or get-ready-for-divorce fighting.

But other than that, love me some bickering couples. I'd say my favorites are probably Ash/Misty from Pokemon and Zelos/Sheena from Tales of Symphonia. =)

[identity profile] akai_senshi.livejournal.com 2010-11-05 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually think your tastes in pairings are more realistic than you think they are. Not every couple can have a perfect romance without any argument.

(Anonymous) 2010-11-05 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
The girl I live with has her boyfriend over sometimes, and they never seem to bicker. It weirds me out. I can't actually imagine a functional relationship without some arguing, who can be nice and lovey-dovey all the time without going mad!?

What couple doesn't bicker? Show my these mystical bickering-free couples.

Unless you mean particularly heavy bickering. My parents are like that, my paternal grandparents were as well. I think that it's normal and fine as long as it's evenly-matched bickering and not one partner putting the other down.

[identity profile] vickyblueeyez.livejournal.com 2010-11-05 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
To me, it makes things interesting. My faves are Kirk/Spock and Spock/Mccoy. Tho I wish Sylar/Peter had more bickering. :[

(Anonymous) 2010-11-05 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I like bickering couples...but I also wish that it would be done less. It seems like, nowadays, if there's a guy and a girl in a piece of fiction, and they bicker, you just KNOW they're going to get together because...well, the fact that they bicker means they OBVIOUSLY love each other!

It seems like it's just used as a cheap way to get people to believe that characters have chemistry or sexual tension. Without like...actually building any relationship.

I kinda wish there was something where a couple bickered and then didn't get together. Or they bickered because they actively disliked each other, without that whole, "I hate them so much! (Except not really, I totes actually love them! Teehee!).

Eh, this kind of turned into a rant against "fight fight bicker bicker" couples, but I really do love that dynamic! I just wish it was done a little less. It's possible for a couple to have chemistry without fighting all the time!

I like bickering couples/partners/friends. I watched a couple of episodes of Naruto just to watch Kakuzu and Hidan bounce of each other.

I wouldn't say it's unrealistic, I know couples like that in real life and they really care for each other when it comes down to it.

(Anonymous) 2010-11-05 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm agreeing with the majority upthread -- a bickering couple who truly love eachother is very realistic to me. That's of course because I've grown up with parent who bicker constantly, but who love eachother very much.
I guess my whole extended family are 'serial bickerers'. ^_^ I can understand that it might be off-putting to someone used to another form of interaction, but to us it's just the way we are, and it's all in a loving spirit.

PREACH.

This thread is making me feel awesome about my marriage. :) My husband and I have bickering down to a science.

[identity profile] eastcoastfilly.livejournal.com 2010-11-06 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
I just find it more interesting if they like to mess with each other a little bit or don't get along perfectly and butt heads. As opposed to, say, a really romantic, mushy couple that either bores me stupid or makes me want to throw up on my keyboard.

[identity profile] angary.livejournal.com 2010-11-06 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I can see what you mean by that. Couples that bicker often in fiction is, I think, actually way more popular than couples that don't bicker that often, because conflict ups the interest level.

Also, after reading this thread, 'bicker/bickering' doesn't even look like a real word to me anymore o_O

[identity profile] duowolf.livejournal.com 2010-11-06 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't call it unrealistic as that's how me and the husband are like and we've been together 13 years now.

[identity profile] 1strangepirate.livejournal.com 2010-11-06 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
couples who don't bicker are creepy

it's like they're not people

if they don't argue either they're clones of each other or one of them (or both of them?) is always submissive in arguments and just YES DEAR and idk it's creepy

[identity profile] keyspitter.livejournal.com 2010-11-06 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
You and Takahashi Rumiko have the same views on romantic relationships. :)

I recommend you Blake's 7 :) Our (anti)heroes are off to save the galaxy from the evil Federation...if they don't kill one another first. Four seasons of squabbling, I'm sure you'll have fun.
