I like bickering couples...but I also wish that it would be done less. It seems like, nowadays, if there's a guy and a girl in a piece of fiction, and they bicker, you just KNOW they're going to get together because...well, the fact that they bicker means they OBVIOUSLY love each other!

It seems like it's just used as a cheap way to get people to believe that characters have chemistry or sexual tension. Without like...actually building any relationship.

I kinda wish there was something where a couple bickered and then didn't get together. Or they bickered because they actively disliked each other, without that whole, "I hate them so much! (Except not really, I totes actually love them! Teehee!).

Eh, this kind of turned into a rant against "fight fight bicker bicker" couples, but I really do love that dynamic! I just wish it was done a little less. It's possible for a couple to have chemistry without fighting all the time!

I completely agree with you. That's what I wanted to point out too, but was nervous to do so since everyone in this thread loves bickering couples. I mean, I like them too, but it's gotten overdone and most of the time it doesn't really make any sense that the two would have a significant relationship with each other if it's not done right. It's gotten to the point where people make one or both of the characters (usually the guy) the biggest douche in the world and yet he STILL gets the chick, which sort of perpetuates the saying "Nice guys finish last". That's why I appreciate couples who are friends, give respect and get along well (most of the time), not frustrate and upset each other. I feel like those couples should be more appreciated because they don't use the crutch of "bickering = chemistry" or "bickering = more interesting relationship".

That was a long paragraph, but really, I do like bickering couples, but only if they're done less/done right.

I agree.
It gets so far as that every display of strong emotion, even hate, between two character is interpreted as "tru wuv" or as "they want totally to bone each other"- or at least it certainly feels like that!
