(Anonymous) 2010-11-05 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)I cannot sort out if the anon says that Alma and Kanda are two different human beings with transplanted memories only, thus they do not necessarily need to fall in love with each other again or that if, because of the previous love they had and the memories they got back, they will fall in love no matter what.

(Anonymous) 2010-11-05 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)I personally think that Kanda and Alma are different human beings than what they were before because of the events lived with their new bodies, the education they received, pretty much everything else but it doesn't mean that because of these memories they can't get back together, live what they once had <3 I'm just not quite fond of the "Now you that you have your memories back, you must be what you once were!" sort of troope that some authors use, it doesn't feel ok to me at least.
But indeed, to deny a canon couple existence just because it does not fit your plans it's a bit unnecesary, DGM has pretty much time space to make Kanda develope another relationship and then make that relationship be confronted with this fact and see how things get solved. It could, in fact, prove to be good for a fic plot ;)
And indeed, after love dies you can love again <3

I don't have a problem with the different human beings theory, the problem it's most fans use it for stupid reasons.
just not quite fond of the "Now you that you have your memories back, you must be what you once were!" sort of troope that some authors use, it doesn't feel ok to me at least.
THANK YOU. I hate it when characters are forced to be what their souls used to be, ESPECIALLY when it comes to feelings (because receiving responsabilities... bah, that I let pass, it's like the heritance of your family). They idea of soulmates is very romantic and I like it, but I prefer it when they show it in another way than making them love someone because of their fucking past lives memories. (This includes fanfiction. Some ships are hard to keep in universe, and making an AU with their reborn souls is an idea that appeals to me. Sadly most of those fics suck, because they're strangers or hate eahc other and suddenly bang! my dreams tell me to love you! Ugh.)
But even if I don't like it, if the author does it is canon, and I won't deny it. u_uU

(Anonymous) 2010-11-06 02:36 am (UTC)(link)The problem with the "they are totes 100% separate and new people with nothing to do with each other" argument is that the characters themselves see themselves as being the same people as they were before. Kanda became furious and asked what the researchers did to erase most of his memories and wanted to know how long it had been since he 'died' and he continued to long to see the flower lady from his memories.
Alma and/or his soul thought about events from the past and from later on as if they were both done by the exact same person, such as "If Yuu found out that I was "that person," then he would stop searching...The promise we made that day.." And then there was the stuff about "9 years ago, you destroyed me (boku) and lived on, Yuu. But that was to keep your promise with me (watashi), huh?".
Also with "I'm sure that you will search for me as long as you are alive. Perhaps you will someday realise that I am Alma, and that alone, I cannot bear".
So pretending the brain and soul have nothing whatsoever to do with the people the characters are now makes very little sense. :/ Yeah, they totally don't think they're the same people.
It just seems stupid to say the characters are completely separate just for the purpose of making sure "they" have never been in love before.

Kanda and Alma are artificial humans created to be the perfect exorcists. The memories/brains/souls/whatever implanted on those two were the souls of a couple of lovers.
Fans are trying to deny that they're those 100% people so they can ship Kanda with someone else. Alma is dying any minute now, so it's really stupid, because Kanda will be single and avalaible for shipping again.

Shortening the story a lot: due Yuu Kanda's inestability in his new body (he constantly saw the image of a lady talking to him), the Order ordered Bak's parents to finish him off but Alma tried to save him.
Yuu regained his memories back completely and Alma went insane and killed most of the Asian Branch's Order, Bak's parents included. Yuu finished him off but Alma was used as the first womb to create The Third Exorcists, a mixture between akuma and exorcists that contained Alma's cells.
Basically, the Noahs wake up, Wisely being the last (a Noah with the power to peek in people's minds). The Noahs and Earl face the Exorcists who are spread all over the world and Wisely captures Kanda and takes him to the place where Alma's body is.
Allen is also dragged where Alma is so he can awake as the 14th. He gets to peek in Kanda's memories, thus seeing what I told you before (Alma and Kanda's childhood, how they were experimented on as children, that Kanda was an exorcist in his other life who was in love with the lady that showed up in his hallucinations, etc).
Allen manages to wake Kanda up with a kick but the Earl wakes Alma up as an akuma. His grudge is so big against the Order that he starts fighting Kanda and Kanda goes berseker.
After too many fights and the Earl suggesting that if Allen becomes the 14th he will stop this whole issue because Alma's cells are like his, Kanda regains his mind after stabbing Allen (thus making him wake up as the 14th) and realizes the existence of Alma.
Allen, after meeting Neah, the 14th, goes back to normal and sees that Alma is in fact the woman Kanda has been looking for during all his new lifetime. Alma decides to eliminate Kanda and screams at Allen to not tell who he is.
After exploding and destroying half of his body.
Kanda wakes up and with Allen's help takes Alma's body. He is still alive but his lower body is missing. Kanda asks Allen to send him to Martel, Allen does so and for the first time Kanda acknowledges Allen, calls him by his name and smiles. Kanda and Alma are sent to Martel but soon afterwards Alma dies in Kanda's arms and Kanda gets to see the lady of the flowers and Alma walking away.
