First of all, praise you anon. I want to write and publish but I'm afraid my stuff sounds like stuff already out there. :( That and I have no idea where to go TO get published. My husband hates proof reading my shit and I don't trust anyone else with my stories. (help) If I did get published, I would look and see if my book had a fandom. I'd be so disappointed if it didn't. So kudos to you that you have followers. Be happy at that. I highly doubt the paranormal romance stuff I want to write would get a fandom. If I made it for the teens ie make my chars high schoolers, where the money is, yea I'd have a fandom but I don't want that.

I hear a good method of self-editing is to write it up, print it out. Lock it in a drawer a few months and then take it out again with fresh eyes.

Make all the corrections deemed necessary. Put yourself in the place of the reader. What do you like- what don't you? Would each character really do this? Also to realise as you write, your perceptions of characters might change. Don't force scenes in the book- you can still write them, but don't force them into the story if it doesn't make sense in the direction it is going (or for the character)- even if you can't use ALL the scenes or concepts you wanted in the finished product, they could have been useful in exploring your character or characters, so they're not really a waste- and who knows might result in some different 'plot bunny' for some other story.

Of course getting someone else to read is probably still necessary but it's a start.

Plus paranormal romance is pretty popular.

I'm more worried because while what I've planned is a series, it's more about friendships and so far next to no romance is planned. And romance really sells it seems to me.

(Though I'd love to see what shippers would come up with if I got a fandom all the same.)

well we all know in the land of fan fic, there is no such thing as friendship. it's always two as friends with secret sexual desire for one another. so even though you have no romance, the fandom will make it.

and as popular as paranormal romance is, I can't find fandoms for the books I read. It's always the teen paranormal romance that gets the followers. I refuse to be a sell out and write some teen romance to get followers/fandom. I just can't win

Someone more clever than myself said to write whatever pushes your buttons the hardest -- because it's going to push someone else's buttons, too.

Do it, and stop telling yourself you caaaaaannn't. You don't know what will happen if you write what you want; you only know what will happen if you don't.

If I write what pushes my buttons (teen paranormal romance) just to push someone else's buttons, it's that a bad thing? That would mean they would hate it right?
