b.) Authorial intent has been dead for centuries. An author's interpretation of hir own characters is not necessarily any more correct than any other reader's interpretation of said characters.
Stephanie Meyer claims her works are a feminist masterpiece? Sure, she can go ahead and keep on claiming that, but that doesn't necessarily make it true. If that was her intent, then she very clearly failed in bringing that intent to light. I mean, don't get me wrong, intent is a good measuring stick of success and failure for an author and a good way to try to pull a story together, but otherwise, it doesn't serve much of a purpose. Once a piece is out there, it's out there, and people can interpret a work however they see fit.
