I choose to accept this as true, simply because I have a friend who is a published author, and another friend who is trying for it, and this just seems like something I could see either one of them doing.

...actually, we've talked about how funny it would be if they posted fanfic and their fandom critted them as OOC. Especially if it was slash fanfic.

My advice to the OP:
Be a little bit more mature. Squeely teenage girls get their claws into almost everything, you can't help it. Focus on the part of the fandom you ARE writing for, keep them in mind, and write your next book. Don't condemn anyone, that's a shit thing to do. Don't dedicate your book to the Comm, because then people will FLOOD the comm when your book comes out, and ruin the community experience. Just take a deep breath and accept the facts. And if you can't stomach it, stay the hell out of your fandom.
