.... I've never encountered anyone who states themselves as having AS, and little be it for me to judge if people speak the truth. But I have to admit to be offended more than once by people compiling a list of bullet points or somesuch on their LJ's and subsequently proclaiming 'Man, I'm so OCD!'

Okay, offended is far too strong a word. But I know someone who's life was... sort of shattered somewhat by her OCD. It took her out of college for over a year, set back her university plans, left her unable to leave her own house for months, and-- hahah, I don't know, now I sound finicky. Just. Yeah, people should try to understand the disorders they often believe they have, unless they plan to incur the wrath of those who have been affected, you know?

Yeah, really. The way my AS alienated me from my peers all my life? When I finally realized what was going on I became depressed and finally suicidal almost a year later.

Yeah, it can cause logical/obsessive thinking and above-average intellegence and whatnot. So can being a shy person. The difference is that you can make shyness go away with experience - AS never goes away, even if we try our hardest to be normal. We'll always go back to the basic soltary "comfort zone" from time to time even if we can handle ourselves just fine in a social situation.

Sorry for the rant, but, yeah.
