The fundamental flaw...

(Anonymous) 2010-12-09 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
... you say 'whore' like that's a bad thing.

When I write my favorite characters as whores, it's because I love them and want them to have amazing sex. <3

Re: The fundamental flaw...

(Anonymous) 2010-12-09 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Uhhh....maybe because it IS.

Being sex-positive is one thing. Condoning whoring is another.

Re: The fundamental flaw...

(Anonymous) 2010-12-09 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
What, exactly, is your definition of whoring?

Re: The fundamental flaw...

(Anonymous) 2010-12-09 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
DA Technically, for money. But in all practical usage: A person who sleeps with everyone except you. XD

Also, prostitution itself is a kink, so I'm not entirely sure what OP is trying to say here.

"You write them like whores!"
"Well, yeah. That's my kink."

Re: The fundamental flaw...

(Anonymous) 2010-12-09 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah... I'm assuming the anon replying to my comment was aware I wasn't referring to prostitution (and I write that too, just not for the purpose of my favorite characters having great sex). I may be giving too much credit, though.

Condoning whoring is another.

Uh, condemning sex workers is most definitely NOT sex-positive.

Re: The fundamental flaw...

(Anonymous) 2010-12-10 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Because sex work is such a positive form of employment. And we wonder why Repbubs think we're sending the world to hell in a handbasket.

Re: The fundamental flaw...

(Anonymous) 2010-12-10 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
DA, but fucking WOW. You are honestly going to call yourself sex-positive and say that prostitutes should be condemned? What's wrong with prostitution, in your mind? I mean, fundamentally, if it were regulated, what's wrong with it?

Re: The fundamental flaw...

(Anonymous) 2010-12-10 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Where did I ever say condemn? I don't condone it. I don't encourage it. Two very separate principles. When my daughters plan their futures I'm not saying "Hey kids! Don't forget about prostitution!"

I don't think prostitutes should go to jail or be treated poorly, but that doesn't mean I have to embrace sex work. And that's a personal opinion that I have a right to hold without explaining myself to you.

But yes, I do call myself sex positive, because last time I checked the litmus test for it wasn't "Prositution: Y/N?"

Some sex workers really, really hate their jobs (and in my opinion, should not be doing what they're doing).

Others are very comfortable with it and find it personally fulfilling for any number of personal reasons of their own.

I'd suggest getting the fuck over that latter fact.

Re: The fundamental flaw...

[identity profile] seiberwing.livejournal.com 2010-12-09 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Same for me. One of my favorite 'kinks' is loving, consensual, happy sex where all parties involved respect and enjoy each other both emotionally and sensually.

...if it's well written, of course. Saccharine platitudes of love are just boring.

Re: The fundamental flaw...

Thisssssss. If that is wrong, I do not want to be right.

Oh, hello Becky! :)))

uhhh...???

Re: The fundamental flaw...

[identity profile] countess-k.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing. Just the quote "If that's wrong, I don't want to be right," is from the slash-writing, Wincest-loving fangirl Becky in Supernatural. I assumed you knew that.

You know very little about whores if you think all of them, or even most of them, actually enjoy sex.

Re: The fundamental flaw...

(Anonymous) 2010-12-10 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't talking about prostitutes, you dullard.

Re: The fundamental flaw...

(Anonymous) 2010-12-10 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Then you are an idiot because OP obviously was.

Re: The fundamental flaw...

(Anonymous) 2010-12-10 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, I'm sorry, but no.

"Treating them like whores" =/= "Writing them as prostitutes". Writing someone as a prostitute is not treating them as a whore, it's writing them as a prostitute.

Re: The fundamental flaw...

[identity profile] wicked-seraph.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
A+

"Whore" is such a fucking stupid concept - enjoying sex and having it often isn't a bad thing at all.

Re: The fundamental flaw...

(Anonymous) 2010-12-10 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Whore = not someone who enjoys sex but = someone who is used for the user's sexual pleasure. That is, someone whose pleasure or even comfort holds absolutely no importance for the user as long as they provide the sexual services.

Re: The fundamental flaw...

(Anonymous) 2010-12-10 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Show me a definition of the word 'whore' that says that, and I'll retract my statement.

It's slang. As you can clearly see in this thread, whore means very different things to a lot of people.

Re: The fundamental flaw...

(Anonymous) 2010-12-10 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not about the word whore, it's about the phrase "treating someone like a whore". When you treat someone as a whore, you don't just have lots of great sex with them. You use them for sex without any regard for them. Like you'd do if you bought an actual whore.
