As much as I love Edgey (he's my fav from the first 3 games), I agree.
I'd really like to see more from the Apollo Justice characters, especially since there's still so much to explore (Trucy & Apollo) and I admittedly I'm still crushing hard on Klavier :D

[identity profile] seathing.livejournal.com 2010-12-19 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. Apollo Justice was my favorite game of the franchise, and I would love a sequel to bits. I thought that Investigations was a bit lackluster; I never finished it, since I wasn't attached to Edgeworth and had no reason to without Apollo or Phoenix.

[identity profile] noonish.livejournal.com 2010-12-19 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh seriously. The first one wasn't that great, I'm not looking forward to another.

[identity profile] retraux.livejournal.com 2010-12-19 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
i totally agree. as much as i like edgeworth i couldn't really bring myself to care about the first investigations, hearing that there's going to be a second is just disappointing :/

idk what the rest of fandom wants, but personally i think it's just time to move on from the old characters and start new with AJ. i just feel like there really isn't anything left to do with the PW-era characters, at this point.

[identity profile] azure15.livejournal.com 2010-12-19 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree! The first investigations game was alright, and it was fun getting to play as Edgeworth with an all new cast, but it just didn't have the same feel as the Ace Attorney games. I gave up at the last case because I was actually bored of playing it. There was no character, no atmosphere.

It's really annoying that there doesn't seem to be any sight of a new Apollo Justice game, especially when there are so many ends to be tied up at the end of the last game. There's Trucy and Polly being related, there's the black locks on Kristoph that haven't been opened, there's whether Phoenix actually did take the bar exam again.. why can't we have a conclusion to that instead of another fap game for Edgeworth?

Edgeworth's a great character, but he doesn't seem to be able to hold his own as a main character. :/

The first game could have been really good if they'd stuck more to established old-school adventure game mechanics/conventions, skipped the generic perky teen girl sidekick, and maybe actually had Edgeworth do his job once in a while! A game about a prosecutor who literally does no prosecuting whatsoever, jesus. So I'm kind of hopeful for the second game, in case they improve on the first.

I'd like another Apollo game too though; it's the 'alpha timeline' so to speak, so they can actually include character development and whatnot instead of mostly pointless faffing like Investigation.

Same here. Except, aside from a few characters and moments, I hated the first Investigations game. I'd rather it have used Ema as the main character, as it originally would have been. Instead, I'm up to my neck in a fanservice game. Ooh cameos. Ooh more unnecessary Edgeworth backstory. Oh, also a pretty lame overarching plot about smuggling rings, and how an embassy in US/Japan has more effect on the country they represent, than the current affairs in the country itself. Okay.

Yeah. Where's the filling of those Apollo Justice plotholes, eh? I want to get back to lawyering things up.

(Anonymous) 2010-12-19 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, considering after AJ the creator/main scriptwriter has said he is no longer interested in continuing (he's working on Ghost Trick atm), I am actually glad Capcom aren't continuing the main series. I mean, I want more AA just as much as anyone else does but I don't think anyone can do it like Shu Takumi can, and tbh that fact REALLY showed itself in the plotline/pacing of Investigations (and the so-called "logic"? lol)

This x1000000. AAI wasn't that amazing to me; the gameplay was interesting, but the pacing was awful, the cameos were underwhelming, the Little Thief made little sense as the gimmick, and it just wasn't that charismatic. Apollo and his cast need more spotlight, as they have potential to be pretty amazing characters if they let them be. But then again, I might be biased because I love everything and almost everyone in that game despite of its flaws. I hate the fact AAI gets to be a franchise and AJ doesn't get a sequel.

...However, I only want an Apollo Justice game if Motohide Eshiro gets the fuck away from it*. If Shu Takumi doesn't come back for a Gyakuten Saiban game, I'm honestly not sure if want.

* Maybe it's my own issue with the guy, but I'm not sure he truly understands any of the series he works on. Between AAI not being that strong and his interviews for Okamiden, I feel like he's pissing in my CAPCOM fandoms' cereal.

[identity profile] montateur.livejournal.com 2010-12-19 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
They're working on Investigations 2? ):

As much as I love the Phoenix Wright characters, I'd rather have the Apollo Justice storyline continued, though I can see it being somewhat tough making another game with the new Jury System introduced in the last case.

(Maybe Phoenix will even get his lawyer badge back? *wishful thinking*)

[identity profile] antler-action.livejournal.com 2010-12-19 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Edgeworth, what Edgeworth? I loved AAI because of sidekick Gumshoe, and Oldbag in a badger costume. Plus it was really interesting to see the writers kind of challenging themselves with the different settings, you know?

Of course I also loved the circus case, so maybe my judgment's a bit off.

[identity profile] oflittlebrain.livejournal.com 2010-12-19 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
WHAT PLEASE NO. I can't even get through the first Investigations, it's freaking boring. :(

[identity profile] cykstar.livejournal.com 2010-12-19 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed.

I want more Apollo Justice and more investigation on their story. The recent game disappointed me :( I had fun playing it, but it was just mucking around doing nothing. I reaaalllyyy wanted to see if Edgeworth contacted with Phoenix after Phoenix got disbarred.

[identity profile] angathol.livejournal.com 2010-12-19 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I still haven't finished Investigations because it's super dull. I agree with you; I'd like to see more of Apollo instead.

[identity profile] scholars.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Lol I didn't realize AAI was so hated. I'm the opposite of most of the thread, I didn't care much for AJ (and probably never will since IDGAF about Apollo and Trucy and Klavier) but thought AAI wasn't too bad.

And AAI2 is going to have Shelly de fucking Killer, that's all I need to know.

[identity profile] croik.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
If Capcom would just be a little bolder, they could address Apollo's crew in GK2, easily. It would make perfect sense for Klavier to show up given the timeframe. It would be great for them to tackle the disbarrment head on. I wish they would take those forward steps rather than retreat to what's safe.

[identity profile] wavelet.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
I kind of agree. Ok, I enjoyed AAI a lot, but I love Ace Attorney even more, and I'd rather have a new AA game! Actually, I thought this was the popular opinion, but I'm not into the fandom anymore so what do I know.

[identity profile] cowgirlmaxwell.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
I agree, especially after seeing the GK2 trailer. HEY LET'S BRING IN MORE PEOPLE FROM EDGEWORTH'S PAST BECAUSE HIS BACKSTORY TOTALLY HASN'T BEEN DONE TO DEATH YET HUH

(Anonymous) 2010-12-20 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
OP, I am just waiting for Maya Fey: Ace Attorney to be announced. I've convinced myself that Maya was busy studying law in AJ to prove Phoenix's innocence, and that's why she was absent. Now, eight years later, the girl from Kurain makes a triumphant reappearance and I die I die I die at the thought of this.

[identity profile] father-cat.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
At least this game has actual courtroom action. I liked AAI okay, but I'm just happy to have another game on the way.

[identity profile] masked-creator.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
I can see where you're comin' from. Personally though Apollo Justice bored me to tears and I thought Phoenix constantly being there even though he'd been disbarred was pretty lousy writing (and I hate how he acts in that game).

On a lighter note it looks like AAI2 will be expanding on the old game's gameplay and give you more options of what to do and how to play.

[identity profile] lljscrawls.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
I can't stand Apollo. I like the other characters, but I LITERALLY cannot stand him -- finishing AJ was a chore. So, if they make AJ2, I know that I most definitely will not buy it.

But I mean, everyone has different opinions. -shrug- Personally, I just want PW4 as I miss the HELL out of Phoenix, but . . .

I agree, mostly because I hated AAI. As for AAI2... logic chess? Seriously?

I'd like a new main series announcement, but AAI2 looks pretty interesting so far, and given the game's apparent theme, it'd be pretty easy to tie it in with AJ. Also, the second case takes place in the prison (you can see Polly in one of the cells!) and I so hope Badd at least gets a cameo during it.
