I don't watch Glee with my family, even though I'd love to, only to avoid a situation like this one. So I perfectly understand you :(

(Anonymous) 2010-12-19 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry, OP, that really sucks :( The one place you should have love and acceptance is amidst your family. I hope you find that some day.

(Anonymous) 2010-12-19 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I am sorry that that happened to you.

But, next time? Punch him. if he's going to have that neanderthal reaction to such things, then give him a response he'll understand.

Stupidest advice ever. Yeah, recommend that the OP take an unsafe situation and make it even more unsafe for... why? To prove a point?

No point, not even THAT point, is worth someone compromising their own safety.

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, because punching your Dad is really helpful when you're still living in his house and are not financially independent...

And even then, you do not punch people for opinions, no matter how despicable they are to you...

[identity profile] dullscythe.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Please don't denigrate neandertals. It's really unfair that they get stuck with a stigma of being backwards or intolerant :(

I'm sorry you had to deal with that anon. =( I remember when I told my parents that two boys will be singing that song together and they acted kinda... annoyed and squeamish over it, I told them off. They got the message and didn't bug me when the actual scene happened.

[identity profile] la-petite-singe.livejournal.com 2010-12-19 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, I'm really sorry to hear that. :\ It's so disappointing that some people are still so close-minded. That show isn't perfect, but I hope it's helping to spread the message that it's always OK to be yourself, and you just have to surround yourself with people who appreciate & respect you for who you are. :)

[identity profile] mutantjules.livejournal.com 2010-12-19 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I am so sorry you have to live with that at home :(

[identity profile] maplelump.livejournal.com 2010-12-19 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Klaine reminds me of how innocent first loves can be. That's why I ship it. And props to you for holding back. I have hit family members when they diss my shows, I sit through their crap without complaint, can't they do the same for me?

<3 It gets better. /corny but true/

[identity profile] bloodrivendream.livejournal.com 2010-12-19 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
My father started a bit on a similar line. Except it was a more toned down "eww, boys flirting."
And my younger brother yelled at him to shut up. And then added in "I think you won't shut up because you are homophobic. *pause* Which means you're probably attracted to men. *pause* Mom, if you want a threesome, I think you may have a shot."

(Anonymous) 2010-12-20 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, your brother is awesome.

(Anonymous) 2010-12-20 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
<3 That's epic. Your brother sounds awesome.

[identity profile] hello-ilu.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
oh god that is so wonderful

[identity profile] casenumber825.livejournal.com 2010-12-19 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Kinda OT...

This is the only clip I've ever actually watched from Glee and I really really liked it.

I thought I'd hate everything about this show (I'd heard some covers they've done and really didn't like them at all). I just really like this scene XD I'm confusing myself now....

And don't worry OP, if there's any sort of gayness on TV my father will make some sort of lewd comment. I no longer know whether he means it or just likes to see what I'll do in response. Luckily I have mother on my side ^_^

(Anonymous) 2010-12-19 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Dam, real sorry you had to deal with that shit anon. ):

Though on a semi unrelated note, that song is the most popular/downloaded song from the Glee Christmas Album on iTunes! I'm so so so so proud!

[identity profile] blackjackrocket.livejournal.com 2010-12-19 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Punch him anyway. If he's that dense that he'd equate simple equality with having to BE gay, then he deserves backlash for his idiocy and bigotry.

Seriously, all this concern about "can't say anything in case parents find out" is absurd. You don't have to be gay to stand up for gay rights and anyone who assumes such is an asshole.

[identity profile] oflittlebrain.livejournal.com 2010-12-19 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
why would a homophobe watch glee? at all?

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
I wonder about that...I mean, even without the specific gay storyline, it's has like gayness oozing out of it, through means of musical theater and sequins. And I mean that in the best way possible.
It's sort of like surfing for yaoi and then complaining it had gay content.

Homophobes puzzle me. Like, completely. I'm glad I have never encountered this attitude IRL. What is it about same-sex people being romantically/sexually attracted to each other that seems to strike so much terror into the hearts of some people? The mind, it boggles.

Sorry, I'm not even sure where I was going with this, but whenever I see a secret like this, I'm nonplussed. And saddened.

I don't care about Glee, but I sympathize with why you'd want that pairing to happen.

Anon, that must be a really shitty situation. But keep in mind...a lot of people are just ignorant. I have a very good friend who is gay. His grandfather would always b*tch about "those blasted homosexuals being on TV so much". That is, until he found out his grandson was gay. Now he doesn't say a single bad word and he is truly, genuinely fond of my friend's partner.

Some people just fear/hate what they do not know, and there might be hope for your Dad yet.

If he truly will see no reason, then the safest thing for you may be moving out when you can. If you're in high school...comfort yourself with the fact that college is SO much better.

I wish you all the best!

[identity profile] simmy549.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
I know what you mean. We saw that episode the other day where the psychopathic football guy kissed Kurt and my parents were like "EWWWWW!" I kid you not. And yeah, contextually, it's not like that kiss was a good thing at all, it was a bit screwed up, but come on.
And not only that, there was that episode a while back where Finn called him a fag and his dad stood up for him.
After that dramatic and rather well-spoken speech he gave, my dad immediately said "so? He's a faggot!"

=| I was fucking pissed off. My dad has made a lot of homophobic comments before, yet I still cannot bring myself to call him out on it because I fear I'll just stammer and fail and then he'll be like "oh, my daughter's gay, then, because she supports homosexuality." And be all disgusted by me etc.

Sigh.

[identity profile] yuumeko.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
my daddy is pretty anti-gay too, but it feels good to be open about it with him-- "BUT DADDY THEY LOVE EACH OTHER"
"GROSS THEY'RE GOING TO HELL"

[identity profile] yuumeko.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
After reading through thread, wow. You guys should really speak up about it. These are your beliefs. I mean, you don't have to turn it all serious business and confrontation, but you can still let your opinion stand-- "i think its cute!" "Oh come on, they're people too," or "BUT THEY LOVE EACH OTHER"

And if they pull the ARE YOU GAY card, then just roll you eyes
