What is it about offline associates that causes this disconnect? Is it because of the fandom? Or is this something that has been boiling over for quite some time?

well, my family's certainly never been the most interesting, but they've not been driving me away for years, or anything.

I just... it's like every waking moment is consumed with thinking about something related to the fandom, and I can't really stop it. my offline associates, at least at the moment, do not share my enthusiasm.

maybe I'm just more antisocial than I think I am.

ok look assuming you're not trolling
this obsession will probably pass in, say, a month. you will get over it. after i saw watchmen i literally found it hard to sleep for thinking about it, BUT ONLY FOR A FEW DAYS. the movie has been out for, i dunno, a few weeks? your family and friends, on the other hand, you will have for years to come, and will appreciate you and spend time with you regardless of what silly fandom is currently occupying your mind.

Not nearly this... encompassing. I've always been able to put things down and walk away for a day or two to hang with my friends or party with my family or whatever. I can barely stand to be away from my computer for a few hours now.

Although I do think some people may be getting the wrong message here. I have spent (a lot of) time with both my friends and my family over this holiday and am continuing to do such; but as much of this time as possible was multitasking in the fandom with my laptop. I do this surprisingly well.

Hmmm...that may be a bit worrisome, such a practice is not entirely healthy. You'll definitely want to keep a watch on that.

Good for you, but that's what happens when you exaggerate about a subject such as this; most people--from what I have noticed-- are very sensitive about things related to offline/online familial dynamics.
