What is it about offline associates that causes this disconnect? Is it because of the fandom? Or is this something that has been boiling over for quite some time?

well, my family's certainly never been the most interesting, but they've not been driving me away for years, or anything.

I just... it's like every waking moment is consumed with thinking about something related to the fandom, and I can't really stop it. my offline associates, at least at the moment, do not share my enthusiasm.

maybe I'm just more antisocial than I think I am.

But... this fandom has only existed for like, five minutes. I think you need to take a feeeew steps back and take a deep breath or ten, before reconsidering putting people you've known for like, two weeks, over people who've been with you for years.

Well...there are people who have been fans of the first movie (and associated games) since 1982 - I certainly been on the mailing list for the fandom since 2001. It wasn't a huge, heaving fandom, but it was there. Didn't realise the new movie had a separate fandom *shrug*

I don't know whether this is the bunch of fans the OP is referring to though.

I think you are all being too harsh. Yeah, OP needs a bit more balance in his/her life, but I think it's okay to get carried away when you are excited in a new fandom. Just don't let it go on too long.

I think it's kind of odd that people think it's normal for a creative person to be like that (no brows would be raised if you said you were an artist and wanted to do nothing but paint), but they get angry or don't understand it when the person in question is from some fandom.

Eh, not really depending on circumstances. If your family is anything like mine (ie. bunch of alcoholics) I can sympathize about not wanting to deal with them around the holidays. And everyone is guilty of really getting into something and having it consume your thoughts. Usually it's a girl/guy. :P Seeing as the movie just came out (or if you're a longtime fan maybe re-sparked interest) the obsession phase will pass and you'll mellow out. Enjoy what you want to enjoy. If it makes you happy, whatever.
