It's implied that the recognizer does that, but it certainly isn't from the first movie. Hell, I totally forgot about that until right now. How did that work...?

Vehicles definitely aren't programs. I always kind of thought of them as files - things programs use to get what they need to do or what the user needs to do done. System files, maybe, since they're used for overall structure vs. small specialized files for something like a pen that an art program needs to sketch with. (although fandom seems to not even think about the file issue, much - Daft Punk are widely viewed as MP3s which makes little sense to me. They're definitely music programs.)

I'd say you're right about derezzing; to go from that: Most of their crucial code is stored in their torso area. Arms, legs, head - all less essential programming that the program can 'live' without, though it certainly impedes their function. For some reason I've always thought that the guy who had half a head probably had memory malfunctions and problems recalling the things he needed to do his functions. Identity discs definitely give them their code originally, but they seem to be separate entities, almost like id cards more than anything else (re: forged discs); perhaps one disc could even give more than one "body" the same exact programming.

/jacking thread, eel won't mind
