I gave up on both, but I think that's popular critical opinion. A lot of critics are saying that Vampire Diaries' roller-coaster pace makes it a way better show than it has any right to be.

I mean, that's your opinion. I don't agree with it in the slightest (the first time I ever saw VD was in the last fifteen or so minutes of the last season finale, and I could guess EVERYTHING that was going to happen before it did), but you have a right to your opinion. As a SPN fan, I really don't care if you like the show or not, OP.

I actually think so too.

I watch both but am a bigger SPN fan and I agree. Vampire Diaries has better pacing, tighter plotting, and better atmosphere, which is something SPN lost a long time ago, unfortunately.

Exactly! SPN is far passsed it's prime, but TVD is truly at the height of it's strength as a show. I'm sure by sixth season TVD will only be a ghost of it's former glory as well.

I think they're both good shows that sound terrible when you explain the premise, and as such, are quite marginalized.

However I think Supernatural is the superior of the two.

Not really that much of a secret OP. Why? Because, The Vampire Diaries really is way better than Supernatural. That being said, even so... both shows are pretty big train wrecks in their own right.

I tried to watch The Vampire Diaries. I failed.

Shame, because I generally love all things vampire.

Are you kidding me? This is such an understatement. The Vampire Diaries is absolutely brilliant, while Supernatural has gotten plain terrible. I'm actually watch the SPN eps sped up, because I find it too boring in normal speed.

I agree. I dislike VD but I love SPN. Its why I avoid most fandoms.. They can't deal with someone disagreeing :| Whatever happen to live and ~~not get butthurt over nothing~~ let live?

Supernatural is one of my favorites and I think it has better writing (not lately, BUT AT ONE POINT IT DID) but VD trumps at pacing forever. And I'm not even really a fan of VD.

I agree! Especially if we're comparing current TVD (which is truly in it's prime) and SPN (which has far slipped from it's former glory). Although, to me, my love for SPN has always been less about the show and more about the fandom. SPN sets up a brilliant world with intriguing characters, but often falls short of exploring it. The fandom is what truly brings all that potential to life. On the other hand, I rarely feel the need for TVD fic because the show never really falls short of my expectations.

I dunno why these are the shows being compared. They really don't have much in common except that they're the only two decent CW shows. Decent CW shows should be united against terrible teen dramas (OTH, Gossip Girl, etc), not pitted against each other.

I think both are trite, but I actually don't get why you're comparing them. Is there some connection between them I'm not aware of?

They're both about supernatural creatures, perhaps? LOL
And also both on the CW.

I've been a big SPN fan for a long-ass time now, but I haven't been able to get into this season. TVD, though is still rocking out hardcore. I don't know if that's a longevity issue, or the fact that there were the Seasons of Nothing but Man Pain on SPN, but I still love both worlds immensely.

Now if only TPTB would deign to give me what I require from both these shows: a cross-over special that's Dean and Damon roaming the countryside in the impala (snarking at each other, fighting some baddies, and then maybe drinking and making out a little) while Sam and Stefan have a shirtless brood-off back home, I'll be a happy fan.

Why do so many secrets speak of crucifixion by fandom? Like I feel that you could just say, "Secret because this would annoy my Supernatural fandom friends". Crucifixion just seems unnecessarily over-dramatic and makes it hard to take you seriously. :/

i've never understood the whole "THEIR FANDOM WILL HATE ME!!!!!1!!!" thing. we really couldn't give two flying fucks about what you like. we'll play quietly in our sandbox with our angels and incest, and you can play over there in yours with your vampires.

i don't understand why everyone's so fucking afraid of having differing opinions.

I tried watching SPN but I couldn't get into it. Yet I mysteriously got into TVD. I wouldn't want to compare them though. To each their own, really.
