So, um, maybe you're talking to the wrong people? I invest maybe twenty to twenty-five percent of my fandom energy, maximum, talking about pairings. The rest is devoted to discussing the world, the characters, non-romantic relations, the plot, and... you know, things.

And unless my neurons are lying to me about my being female, I'm pretty sure you just need to find lady fans who are into characterization and worldbuilding in addition to shipping. :I Have you ever tried, I don't know, bringing up these subjects to some people in... /wince "~female fandom"?
