and now the only thing I can think of is Daleks. That certainly makes far more sense than anything else I can think of...

mmrgh. I hate comparing them to iTunes (my hated music program of choice) but... definitely programs. Speaking of their outfits - and one reason I've people label them as mp3s - they're very different than anything we see anyone else wearing. I know that it's because they (or their normal costumers, anyways) designed those vs. the costumers of the movie, but I can't help but wonder what it could mean program-wise.

I always wondered what the forged discs would do - seeing as the discs always seem to show a headshot of its "user" when it pops up, are they really just ID cards? But at the same time, they can be altered and therefore alter the program they're attached to, so wouldn't a forged disc actually create a new program and not just mask the original one? Or are the forged discs merely look-a-like copies that store no code but look like discs so a. you don't get picked up for having no disc but b. you can be "restored" from your copy on the disc?

For that matter, how does that work? Quorra gave her disc to Flynn and Sam, supposedly to protect her code, but other programs do the same and don't give them to Users (who could easily resurrect or create new programs) - does this mean that an identity disc can recreate a program from the moment it was detached from said program? Or is it only so that if they are captured, the enemy cannot see their experiences (and therefore allies, etc)?

Haha, I don't like iTunes, either (Windows Media Player works just fine, thanks). But aesthetically that is what they reminded me of first, and I can see the point in designing their outfits to stand out? The fact that they helped with the musical score was how I heard of the sequel in the first place.

I think maybe Daft Punk's designs were made with the knowledge that their cameo would be in a fairly fast-paced/actiony part of the movie, so they needed something to stick out? Not saying that they would be easily missed but I guess if someone didn't know, they might not catch it? They were the only ones beside Rinzler that never showed their faces, after all.

I imagined that a forged disk would maybe be like... an altered record? The process would be removing incriminating information from the disc or encrypting it so it was not immediately seen. Like say Program A derezzed Program B, gets a forged disc, Black Guard can't immediately access the "murder" data and Progam A successfully clears a security checkpoint or something. Though it also begs the question how much a program can alter another's identity disc, such as adding information or knowledge-- or is that something only a User can do?

I also first heard of it through Daft's Punk involvement. Thought they did an excellent job, too.

I have no idea. Of course, like many movie decisions, it probably means nothing in the universe. It is canon that programs can have different clothes etc from what I hear, so it could easily just be that.

I don't believe programs can actually alter identity discs (with the exception of Clu) but encryption might work. Some sort of complicated code-hiding so that the code is hidden and it doesn't look immediately like it is? That would be difficult and require a certain level of skill - and therefore a certain type of program that Clu could target. SO MANY QUESTIONS, SO LITTLE TIME.

Me too! I really like the Rectifier track, though it's hard to choose my favorite track, especially now that I know what track goes to which part of the movie.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE PART ABOUT FANDOM the speculating and discussion!
