13. It's not just manga getting more popular, it's that so many american comics these days are either crap or not marketed well enough to find a huge audience. if manga is crap(and most of it is, in my opinion, just like american stuff) it's crap that found a better foothold in the market right now. Hopefully the manga fad will even out and soon there will be an equal amount of manga and american comics and comics from (GASP) other countries in bookstores.. i hope..
Japanese comics AND American comics both need to step it up as far as quality. Akira and Cromartie High School, The Goon and Fables.. These are HARDCORE EXCELLENT, but comics in general are getting dumbed down more every day..
