6. Expressing a like for yaoi isn't bad, expressing a dislike for yuri is lame when you do the former because it is implying that rather than you being for homosexual relationships because they are relationships, you are only interested in it as much as it pertains to your hormonal interests/fetish or how 'cute' you think it is. It just seems retarded. That is my opinion, some people will think completely differently.

20. This is really mean, but as a real lesbian, I can't stand 'fandom lesbians.' You are not a lesbian just because you can crush on girls that you RP your yaoi OTP with, sorry. If you are lesbian you can like het and man on man porn, but the latter is the only way you can get off, your 'lesbianism' has a lot more to do with fandom than an actual active sexual interest in women, I'm sure. Or maybe it's because bishounen just look like flat girls with dicks.

6. im not into yaoi OR yuri, but i dont see anything wrong with liking something because it appeals to a fetish, and not liking something because it does the opposite. it's nothing to do with ones opinion on homosexuality, just with ones personal opinion on whats "hot".

(Anonymous) 2007-05-30 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
There is nothing wrong with not liking something because it does not appeal to your fetish, but fetishizing or turning anything into pure sexual objects is not my cup of tea, but I don't think there's anything wrong when people do it (especially if it's with fictional characters. reality=\=fiction, I'm not the crazies who can't differentiate). But putting something down just because it doesn't appeal to your fetish is lame. Not liking it does not require putting it down. Thinking it's 'weird' is putting it down.

[identity profile] pimmy.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
that's understandable, I don't like turning stuff into pure fetishy things either, not my cup of tea at ALL. And putting something down because it doesn't appeal to you isn't nice either, but I didn't get the "putting down" vibe from that person, just a "i dont like it" thing.

[identity profile] ew-younerd.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeeahh I got the vibe that the person just didn't like it and maybe had a slight distaste/aversion to it, but it doesn't seem to be any serious bashing, and this is coming from a huge yuri lover ♥

You're jumping to a pretty big conclusion on 20, there... she could just be a lesbian who really gets off on thinking and roleplaying about men having sex. She never said it turned her lesbian!

(Anonymous) 2007-05-30 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
You're right, I was jumping to an assumption on a vague secret/statement. I didn't really mean to do that, as I have no say in what someone's actual sexuality is. I just meet too many girls who run around calling themselves lesbians because they crush on girls they RP buttsex with. A lesbian can get off to man/man sex or het sex and still be a lesbian, I wasn't implying they couldn't if that's what it looked like. But if that is the ONLY way she can get off, and can't get off with real girls, then I have my doubts. If that's the only way she can get off, fantasy-wise, then I can understand.

I sound like such a self-righteous twat, and I apologise for that, haha.

I know a lot of lesbians who get off to yaoi and outside of fandom they're completely dykes. I have no real sexual preference myself, but a lot of yuri does nothing for me.

[identity profile] ew-younerd.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
So much of yuri is just...well, a lot of it lacks substance and it's just plotless sex :( That's why I'm so in love with sailor moon and utena, I guess, they are fandoms and series that focus on meaningful girl relationships rather than putting them in background roles.

While I have my own opinions on RP lesbians, I think it's unfair to jump the gun and think everyone who prefers yaoi cannot be a real lesbian. Mostly because a lot of times, what you like in fiction has to do with the characters involved (such as if someone likes an incest ship or age-gap ship) and the dynamics, rather than what is between their legs.

I know a lot of yaoi fans that got converted to yuri because of Yoruichi/Soi fong, since it was a female/female relationship that was well-developed, focused on, and had very interesting power dynamics THIS IS ME BABBLING

Dude, you don't get to tell a stranger whether they're a real lesbian. You simply and purely do not. Gracious.

(Anonymous) 2007-05-30 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I realise that was a mistake on my part and above I explained myself a bit better. I still hold a pretty unrightfully judgmental opinion on the subject at hand, I admit, but I didn't mean to insinuate that she was not really gay or doubt her sexuality. If that is all she can get off to , fandom-wise, then it makes sense and I didn't take that into consideration. I thought she was implying that she cannot even like girls outside of fandom and can only get off to yaoi.

Cool beans, everybody eats some foot from time to time. I get what you meant now.

I'm a real lesbian too, thanks. Girls turn me on. Guys don't. Believe it or not, I'm not a virgin, and I've tried things with both guys and girls. And that's all I can say about that!

I think the roleplay thing's fetishism more than anything. It's just.. something I need to get off. :/
