What does being transgendered have to do with whether or not you can identify with a character? Because of his name? Because he's male and you were born biologically female? Idgi. I'm ftm and I've identified with a female character for over half my life, big deal, it doesn't make me less of a guy for it, nobody questions me on it. Because her gender has nothing to do with it. If people would really get on your case over identifying with a ~boy~ that much, you need to hang out with different people.

Am I missing something?

I thought that maybe the OP is still closeted, and by telling others that he relates to a male character, it might arouse their suspicions.

I don't know why anyone would read that much into what fictional characters one identifies with, or why the gender of those characters would matter. :T Idk maybe it's just me, but I have zero tolerance for taking other people's shit. If anybody gave me a hard time for something like this, I wouldn't need them in my life.

No, I'm out to most of my friends and some family. It just bugs me that the closest example I can give to what kind of person I am is a boy named Hanna. I feel it is detrimental to my case for being a transguy, so I kinda don't want to tell anyone.

My point was more of a general "I'm a rather non-masculine transguy and the closest example I can give you of what kind of person I am is this fictional boy named Hanna."

It's not a secret in the sense that other people would get on my case, or that they would bug me about it. It's a secret in the sense that I don't want to give this example to people because it bothers me. Perhaps I should have been more clear in my secret post. I know it doesn't make me less of a man, and thank you for re-enforcing that, but it still bugs me.

I gotcha now, I think. But don't worry so much, dude! I know how it gets, because you don't want to give people an excuse to "doubt" you, or to doubt yourself. I think a lot of transguys get stuck in this cycle where we think we have to be stereotypical macho men, and I think we do ourselves a disservice with it. You are free to like or not like, identify with or not to identify with anything that you want. It doesn't make you somehow less than exactly who you are, at your core.

And Hanna is a pretty good guy to ID with, so I think you'll be all right. :)

I dunno if it'll help any, but I'm also a rather non-masculine transguy who found his character quite easy to relate to! It bugged me a little at first for a couple of reasons (not the least of which being my given name is also gender-neutral but assumed to be female, and I'm 4' 10"), but he's just so happy-go-lucky and awesome that I can't help but like him.

Like you said, it doesn't (and shouldn't!) make either of us less of a man. =)
