i hope you and yours continue to live a charmed life and never suffer a debilitating illness. but i'm sure that if you did, you'd be one of the first in line for that 'government teat' you resent so much.

compassion... you're doing it wrong.

I'm a responsible person, I've paid my insurance and put money into savings so I won't ever have to suck and scrounge off other people.

call us back in 20 years when some debilitating disease obliterates your precious, carefully-accrued savings

i'm all for government non-intervention but you gotta have a safety net to catch people who fall through the cracks

and i hope your insurance never finds a reason to drop you and your medical bills never exceed your savings. and lucky you that you didn't develop your debilitating disease before you were able to work and amass that savings and insurance. gee... if only i'd been smart like you and not developed a degenerative bone disorder at age 16. then i could be an "i've got mine, jack" libertarian like you. aren't you just the speshul snowflake!

lol paying for people's disability is what...a dollar out of my pocket every year? What a fucking Scrooge you are. Go eat a bag of dicks. Not everyone can afford insurance or put money into savings.

You don't even know what you're talking about if you think disability only takes a dollar out of your(and other peoples) pockets.

My partner's mother was also a responsible person who paid her insurance and put her money into savings, and guess what? She developed diabetes anyway, lost both her legs anyway, was forced to spend all of her savings on her medical care, and now has to rely on us to get by. I really hope you see the light and stop being such a tiny-brained, arrogant twat, but that's just my little pie-in-the-sky dream for you. The point is, debilitating illnesses or accidents can happen to ANYONE, including YOU. They will drain all of your savings, and leave you with NOTHING. And there is not one goddamn thing you can do about it.

So suck on that awhile. Or better yet, visit a nursing home/rehab facility for the elderly/poor and ask any one of them why they aren't as LUCKY as you are/have been.

A similar thing happened to my grandmother recently. She used to be very well-off, had a lovely house that had just been renovated, never had to rely on pension money, and was living comfortably.

Then she developed a spinal problem (the odds of it happening are something like 1 in 100,000 and she just so happened to be that 'one') and her health insurance didn't cover the operations she needed to have to fix it and save her life.

In just ONE YEAR she used up all of her life savings on surgeries, medical care and the equipment she now needs just to move around.

So fuck anyone who thinks disabled people are sponging off the taxpayers. I'm sure my grandmother just loves having to rely on a measly government payment each fortnight and her family's charity as opposed to the life she used to lead.

Well, save a couple million. Mom's treatments cost at least half that before the cancer killed her.

Same with my Mom. 3 and a half years of treatments and my Mom and Dad did every thing right financially. I can't imagine how they could have paid for it without insurance... and even then there were copays.
