There's been more than one Batman (though all of them have been white and brunet for whatever reason), why can't people just accept that there's a different Nick Fury and this one is black? Who cares?

It kind of reminds me of when a soap opera replaces an actor but they carry on with the same storyline that never ends.

Because while Bruce Wayne is Batman and there can be multiple Batmans it would be really weird if there were multiple Bruce Waynes, especially if they weren't clones.

Plus, whenever there was a new guy as Batman there was a lot of controversy and drama. Except for right now where the whole point is having multiple Batmen but so far one is Japanese and one is French/Muslim/possibly an immigrant? (I haven't read it yet) and that has caused a bit of controversy as well.

Even on a smaller level, though, the Bruce Wayne you know changes completely from writer to writer and artist to artist. Sometimes he does things and the higher ups say "Hey, you know what? Nevermind." And sometimes Peter Parker makes deals with Satan to erase years of character history because they don't know what to do anymore.

It's just sort of how comics work. These characters are loose templates more than anything.

Yes, but a great many people hated it and stoped following Spiderman when that happened.

Plus, because of the constant art shifting we've seen between artists (starting around the 80's I think) it's really important to keep certain qualities straight otherwise you just can't tell who anyone is. Bruce Wayne will always be white with blue eyes and black hair. He'll be really big (to distinguish him from Dick/Tim/Jason) and wear nice suits (to distinguish him from Clark) or really goofy party clothes (while Clark is still wearing an ugly suit).

I still feel that saying "Remember that time Nightwing got married? Yeah, neither do we." is a lot different than saying "Yeah, she used to be Asian, but the artist forgot, so deal with it."

To the latter point, I'm reminded of a scan from Rob Liefeld: specifically, this one (http://progressiveboink.com/b/images/rob/liefeld%20007.jpg). The caption from "The 40 Worst Rob Liefeld Drawings" (http://progressiveboink.com/archive/robliefeld3.html) asks, "Can you tell which one is supposed to be Hispanic?"

To the broader point, I think what's missing here is that this guy hasn't replaced the Nick Fury we know and love. He's an AU, the same as the unhinged burnout from Fury and the Walsingham knock-off from 1602 are AUs. DC has their share of those as well.

I guess it's not that I'm angry with this version of Fury I just wish he *was* the other version of Fury and he just isn't. So yeah.

(And now I'm rereading that Rob Liefeld page instead of getting excited for Young Justice. Sigh.)

I always thought Terry was supposed to be part Asian. But he's DCAU-only so maybe he doesn't count.
