Eating meat is pretty obviously harmful to animals, and if you don't have to eat animals to survive, then we are basically killing them for no reason other than the pleasure of their taste. It is really not much different than killing animals for sport, except it is more mainstream and acceptable.

And I've been an activist for awhile, so from personal experience and research it's actually way more effective for people to become veg than to get an extra 6 inches of space for animals in their cages. In the century that animal welfare has been around, conditions for animals have only gotten worse. That's not even including other uses of animals such as entertainment or vivisection. Convincing people to become veg is way more effective because it hits the root of all those problems and provides a solution that everyone can be a part of. You don't need an organization or lots of money or lawyers to change the world, it's all up to you.

And for the record, I don't like PETA.
