... you really have absolutely no idea how being a fan works, do you? It was a joke. It was all a joke. Jude is a babe, but he is a celebrity, he is at least ten years older than me, and aside from getting my kicks by watching his movies and enjoying the eyecandy, I am not ~emotionally invested in him. That was not an emotional reaction. It was an exaggerated, fannish reaction to finding out my eyecandy is a furbeast. Which he is, sorry to say.

I hate to break it to you, but nobody cares about the fact that an angry anon in a sea of forgettable comments doesn't respect their squicks, so.

People are allowed to not like hair. You may not agree, but believe it or not, a lot of full-grown adults dislike pubic hair. It doesn't hurt you unless they actually are interacting with you, so really? Chill out.

Different anon

There's a difference between personal preference and demonising certain natural features, though. The dislike of some people for pubic hair is directly related to the current/enduring fashion in some countries for going "Ew, yuck! Body hair! That person has body hair, aren't they disgusting?" Which is not good. :/

I agree with that, yeah. I mean, I don't have a problem with pubic hair, at all. I specifically am unattracted to very hairy men, which is about as far as my dislike extends, and yeah, I have problems with people who treat all body hair like it's gross... but I also have problems with how this anon is phrasing their opinion.

I don't lose respect for people who think body hair is gross. I just think it's kind of sad, and maybe briefly annoying if I'm emotionally connected to the situation.

I am one of the anons who thinks that the OP's squick deserves no respect. No really, it doesn't. S/he isn't saying anything like "shaving or not shaving are equal options." S/he is saying that any mention of pubes, as mild as "her soft curls" are SO DISGUSTING TO HIR that s/he wants writers to STOP DOING IT.

I'm a smut writer who really likes pubic hair, so of course I'm going to get my back up. In my smut, I'm going to keep writing what I like. No, I am NOT going to warn for a description of normal human bodies.

Squicks deserve a certain level of respect in that, "I won't force you to try to like this thing that I know you don't." But they don't deserve universal respect.

Personally, I am squicked by big spiders, AUs that take magic away from inherently magical characters, h/c that infantilizes a character, seme/uke dynamics imposed on Western book/movie/TV characters, and slut-shaming of female characters who like sex. Body hair ain't even on my radar of squick.

I think it's a generational thing. Jude Law is 2 years younger than me, and full-body hair removal is NOT normal in my generation, for either gender.

But...this whole thread started from someone who was squicked by the very mention of pubic hair. And I say again, in my NC-17 fic I will not warn for descriptions of normal human bodies.

Yeah, my mum seems weirded out even by the idea of shaving pubes fully, so I'd believe the generational explanation.

You shouldn't be expected to warn, tbh. Smut is smut. I get squicked when people use "pussy" and... well, really, almost any slang epithet for vagina, but that doesn't mean people aren't going to use them. It means I'm either going to get the hell over it or stop reading.

Women of my generation shave our armpits and legs, but not our pubes. (And even that's negotiable; my mom tried to hold me off shaving my legs as long as she could. I couldn't even manage to do it right until I left home at 17.)
