Guh. I agree. I stopped watching Grey's around when Meredith died/came back to life in S3 cos, by that point, it had strayed to far from the show I initially loved. Having heard in passing about George's death, I set out to watch the episode about a year after the fact. Despite emotional detachment from the show and the characters, I was a sobbing wreck for over a day.
