Psst -- and yes, as others are saying (especially if you write!): please don't use "literally" unless you know what it means. It's a pretty common error, but it makes us grammatical types cringe in pain. Beta readers are your friend!

I'm sorry that you don't have more confidence in your writing. When I first started writing, I had almost no confidence in it, but the more I write, the better I get. Try posting something f-locked in your journal for only your friends to see. That's a good way to ease yourself into it, imo.

You are allowed to have your own hobbies, your own interests, your own goddamn life. You don't need to share everything with your friends to be validated.

Anyway why can't you tell your friends something like, "I wrote some stories and posted them online anonymously, and they are getting good feedback!" You don't need to go into detail if you don't want to.

I write fic all the time. I don't share it with my RL friends (well, I did once, but it's not something I'd make a habit of, even if we do share fandoms). If something I do gets good reviews and I'm excited, I'll let 'em know, but no reason to go into detail.

And most friends won't be going out of their way to actually read them. Mine, at least, are "Oh ok, good for you! :D" and that's it. It's like, for example, a dear friend of mine enjoys... archery? That's great, I'm happy for them, I'll go see them train once, end of story. Writing is not all that different O_o (or hasn't been, in my experience)

Kind of the same here. On one hand, I'm just shy about what I write. Sure, it's very flattering when you get nothing but flattery even if it's mostly from other anons. Doesn't necessarily mean your work is flawless of course, just that some people who liked it bothered to mention they did.

On the other hand, I just like being anonymous and keeping it to myself. Not really sure why, just do. If you count fandom friends as people you can share your excitement with, maybe you should make a few of those. Or you could even repost some of your more well-received stuff under the guise of "archiving" and see where it goes from there.

As a way of becoming less insecure... maybe... try de-anoning with a sockpuppet? Unless you have a very unusual fandom combination, people won't notice. And... part of you will get the credit you deserve?

I only know maybe one or two people who actually share their fandom activities with their real-life friends. I don't know ANYONE who posts fic under their real name - we're all "anonymous." Relax.
