I like the way you ship! /offtopic

The thing that hurts most about the deaths (for me) is the fact that he's treating them so humorously. Like the HURP DURP DEAD face he used on Tavros and Feferi, or that bullshit with Rufio.

But he's said on several occasions that he can never do something without compulsively adding a little humor, so I'm trying not to let it get to me.

Hussie is really trying his hardest to tell a serious story while still keeping things relentlessly lighthearted. I have to say I kind of appreciate it; far too many comics make the mistake of accompanying a shift to high drama with a shift to oppressive grimdarkness.

As the man himself has said, comedy and drama can and should coexist in the same story, often in the same panel.

It would have been far worse if they had been presented as SERIOUS GRIMDARK deaths. Way too melodramatic and stupid, and bordering on becoming like some over-emotional anime comic. They are, after all, just fictional aliens. Almost nothing except maybe Vriska's questbed death have been done perfectly straight.
Also I think it captures a bit of that feeling where something awful happens and all you can do is laugh!

(the self-inserts can get lost though, but at this point so many people hate them that he'll never stop doing them just out of spite)

Yeah, I wasn't offended by it, though I didn't find it terribly funny - first running gag in Homestuck I felt was just run into the ground.

This, seriously. I was crushed by Kanaya's death, but I still laughed my ass off at Rufio (and the expression in your icon, for that matter). Homestuck has always been about black humor and mixing laughter and tragedy.

Same here. Maybe it has something to do with that thing AH mentioned about reading things serially or archivally(sp???). I stormed through the thing until I reached that current part then where he drew himself as a troll and explained troll romance. I kind of assumed black humor and light hearted junk juxtapose srs DRAMA was normal.

I don't want to read Angststuck. That's what fanfiction is for.

I can usually deal with the humor of character deaths in that comic (though I adamantly maintain that Davesprite is only MIA), but I was pretty sad about Kanaya.

Not everyone dies with dignity and peaceful looks, however.
