See, I usually can't stand rereading books, but I can read Discworld novels over and over and never tire of them.

[identity profile] dullscythe.livejournal.com 2011-02-06 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
This goes for me, too.

(Anonymous) 2011-02-06 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel you. It's the first book I ever bought. In my family we could only get books from the library, but when I went away to college and realized I would be spending hundreds of dollars on textbooks I made sure it was my first purchase from the university book store. Then with my first computer I went online and discovered Good Omens fanfiction-- true story.

[identity profile] ragnarok-hound.livejournal.com 2011-02-06 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I have re-read this book about four times. It is my favourite :D

[identity profile] carey-pontmercy.livejournal.com 2011-02-06 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I used to reread books all the time, but I almost never do it now that I'm in college. Now I just have a compulsive need to consume as many new books as possible. Which isn't really that interesting, but whatever.

[identity profile] philonecron.livejournal.com 2011-02-06 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't imagine not re-reading books-- but then again, I read ridiculously fast and like to relax with the same story a lot, so it's cool if you don't.

Good Omens is a pretty groovy novel, though! I can deffo. understand. (:

[identity profile] cheshirecgrin.livejournal.com 2011-02-06 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I am the same way. I read crazy fast, so re-reading books helps me to pick up on things I missed previously. And I have "cravings" for certain stories like people have cravings for certain foods, so I have to go back and read them.

And I agree with your analysis of Good Omens.

[identity profile] whitepawn-alice.livejournal.com 2011-02-06 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this! I find certain books comforting (including Good Omens), so I like curling up with them. Especially now I'm in university -- I find reading non-school books is a great way to relax.

[identity profile] atom-bunny.livejournal.com 2011-02-06 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
This is one of the few books I have re-read 3 or 4 times. In fact, it's been quite a while since I last read it so I think that I'll have to dig a copy out and read it again. ^_^

[identity profile] holidaylights.livejournal.com 2011-02-07 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
You stole my comment, only I was going to be a lot meaner, haha.

[identity profile] fictionalbf.livejournal.com 2011-02-06 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I've reread this book so many times I can't even count, and every time I pick up on something I missed the previous go-round. (Although this may have been because I first read it at a very impressionable age, when a lot of the jokes went over my head. I also suspect that it heavily influenced my spirituality, but that's another thing entirely.)

[identity profile] theditz.livejournal.com 2011-02-06 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I read this book every time I go on vacation, so yeah... I've re-read it quite a few times. And it's still good ♥

[identity profile] la-petite-singe.livejournal.com 2011-02-06 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I need to read this friggin' book already. I've been meaning to for ages. Also, I'm reading Cuckoo's Nest right now! [/cool story bro]

(Anonymous) 2011-02-07 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Both great books, have a cool time bro.

Can we talk whether or not this is true?

The first time I finished Good Omens, I paused for about five seconds before I flipped it over and started from the beginning again.

There's no shame in it, OP. Good Omens is amazing in more ways than one.

[identity profile] tiger-pause.livejournal.com 2011-02-06 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god, I adore Good Omens. I've lent my copy to someone recently and it's killing me a little not having it whenever I just want to flick through. That's a little sad, isn't it. Oh dear. But YES. It's such a good book to re-read. ♥

Good Omens is one of a very few books that every so often I pick up and open up to a random part, and just start reading from there until I have to put it down again. It's a great book for re-reading and noticing new jokes or connections I hadn't before.

[identity profile] missing-mile-15.livejournal.com 2011-02-07 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
I have reread this book at least a dozen times, no shame here. It actually gets better every time, something that should be impossible.

[identity profile] ainekatt.livejournal.com 2011-02-07 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
See, that's odd to me because I reread books like crazy. Like, I read a ton of new stuff, but I still have books that I can pick up, open to any page, and dive into and feel like nothing matters.

I've read Good Omens a good dozen times since I first picked it up alone!

[identity profile] caffeine-buzz.livejournal.com 2011-02-07 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
I reread my books quite a lot, but there are some books that I can only reread when I'm in the particular mood for them and then some that I can pick up at any time at all and read all the way through. Good Omens is definitely in the "always in the mood to reread" column.

[identity profile] armsofrain.livejournal.com 2011-02-07 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
It's not very often that I re-read books; something has to really hook me in order for that to happen. I just bought this book a few days ago and am about halfway through it, and I'm completely in love. This will probably be one of those that I can read multiple times over and never get tired of.

"The sure mark of an unliterary man is that he considers ‘I’ve read it already’ to be a conclusive argument against reading a work. We have all known [people] who remembered a novel so dimly that they had to stand for half an hour in the library skimming through it before they were certain they had once read it. But the moment they became certain, they rejected it immediately. It was for them dead, like a burnt-out match, an old railway ticket, or yesterday’s paper; they had already used it."
