I would definitely think a little less of someone who only read one series/listened to one band/etc., but I'm not sure it's fair to apply that to video games.

A lot of people stick to Nintendo because they grew up with one Nintendo console in the house, that's all they've ever known, and they don't have the time or money to take a chance on something else. It's not like you can just run down to the local library and borrow a PS3, you know?

And even just sticking to one console isn't nearly as limiting as say, listening to one band would be. A single console is still going to have a pretty big library of games in a variety of genres available to play.

Except that's the exact same thing as saying "I only listen to Green Day 'cuz that's all I've ever known."

Not quite, since expanding into non-Nintendo consoles requires a lot more money than expanding into non-Green Day CDs. My siblings and I grew up with only Nintendo machines, and by the time we had the financial independence to purchase other consoles, only my brother was willing to drop the $200 for an Xbox 360.

Of course, that doesn't take into account emulation...

Or warezing, for that matter. I think fully half of the PC games I've played over the last ten years were warezed or torrented.

The irony is I legally own a bunch of them now. And they say piracy is killing PC gaming.
