I've never stuck to 'only' Nintendo or 'only' FPS or 'only' Square Enix or 'only' SMT etc. myself because I'd get bored easily.

But I could care less what other people do. What's it to you what other people like? Is it really going to impact your life, like, at all? FFS.

I would definitely think a little less of someone who only read one series/listened to one band/etc., but I'm not sure it's fair to apply that to video games.

A lot of people stick to Nintendo because they grew up with one Nintendo console in the house, that's all they've ever known, and they don't have the time or money to take a chance on something else. It's not like you can just run down to the local library and borrow a PS3, you know?

Nintendo fans bug me because they are a huge reason gaming journalism is obsessed with retro coverage and pandering, I really dont get opening a Nintendo Power magazine and seeing a bunch of filler crap like "Top Ten girls!! :Zelda, Peach, Samus" over and over again, and it makes me wonder honestly what is up. I am all for Nostalgic Charm and everything, but Nintendo fans on the surface just seem like they are happy not giving any other equally just as well made games a shot.

Wait, so what if someone just plays Final Fantasy games? Or if they only play Square Enix games and say stuff like "I can't wait for FF-versus-XIII" with a straight face? Is that somehow better than being a Nintendo fan?

Because then it makes it seem like there's some kinda litmus test for what games you should play to be considered a 'gamer'. I know a friend who got horrible motion sickness from Portal, and I get awful headaches from FPS games. So it's easier to stick to other games.

Oh! Also, I wasn't allowed to touch my brother's Xbox until he went to university. So I basically was stuck with gamecube, and a PS2. I mean, I know Nintendo is shit, and the Wii sucks, but I still like their games. So sue me.

I don't suggest everyone should take gaming dead seriously and I certainly don't hate Nintendo by itself, they make some excellent games no doubt. I just find it ridiculous when some people consider themselves gamers yet never wander outside that Nintendo "bubble", thinking they don't need to, and ignore all the innovation happening on other platforms. This doesn't seem to happen with any other console. I've never met a Playstation owner who only plays Sony franchises.

I used Portal as an example because it's a well-designed classic by any standard and deserves to be played by anyone.

I both agree and disagree. See, I won't think less of you if you only play Nintendo or a certain type of games. You have probably tried other consoles or types, but find that no, you like this particular thing and you want to stick to it. That's fine, you've found your thing and both you and me are happy that way.

If you on the other hand laugh at me for liking a different console or game and refuse to even try something new, I think you're close minded and need to step outside your comfort zone.

I love Nintendo to death, and they are my favorite gaming company. That said, I own almost every single system (I'm only missing the PS3 at this point), and my favorite game of all time is on the PS2.

I judge anyone who is a fanboy/fangirl of any system or company. In my experience, the PS3 fanboys are the worst (good GOD the elitism and wank is IMMENSE), but anyone who will refuse to play a game or a system simply because of the company that made it is an idiot. Let the companies have their console wars. The gamers should just reap the benefits of said wars and enjoy the games.
