Yeaaah.

I don't think the show was ever meant to be particularly deep, but it was pretty clever. It's a weird show in that the humour is almost this perfect mixture of juvenile and sophisticated I don't even know. I went back and watched it recently worrying that it would look really stupid in retrospect, but I found myself enjoying it just as much as I did back in High School.

I think people underestimate it a little; silly or not, Zim's got a pretty solid core theme about childhood that is rarely touched on in kid's shows. There's plenty of shows aimed at kids about outcasts, but they're usually pretty fluffy and reassuring and about finding your place in the world/becoming accepted, whereas IZ was kind of brutal in the outright neglect and derision the main characters faced from pretty much everyone around them. There are a lot of kids who feel like this- some justified, many not- and I always thought it was pretty heartening that Dib and Zim just kept doing their thing no matter what people thought.

Uhh, is that meta enough for you? :D

hahaha man, I'm several days late but those icons are awesome. Also it's weird but I was delving into the Hey Arnold! fandom on LJ a few weeks back and I think I've seen your username pop up. You seem cool so I'd like to add you to my flist, if that's okay!
