...really depends on what you want instead. Boo? Significant other? Girlfriend? What do you call someone you're having sex with and have feelings for without it sounding incredibly trashy? "Lover" at least sounds classy, if outdated.

This is the problem I have. The word sounds...odd to me, most of the time, but I can never think of a viable alternative that doesn't sound just as weird to me or, as you said, isn't trashy.

I have a friend who calls her boyfriend "piece of ass" affectionately, and it usually just gets a :| face from me. I would prefer lover nine times out of ten, I think.

I just can't be mad at "boo" for some reason. I don't know why.

When I was in junior high, I sat really close to this guy in one of my science classes, and he was kind of a friendly guy, so we talked a bit. The teacher--I'm not sure why--asked if he was my "boo" at one point, but I didn't hear him clearly; I thought he said "book." So, instead of answering, I started looking around for this phantom book in the conversation, completely ignoring the fact that the teacher and guy-I-sat-next-to kept waiting for me to answer. :)

Now every time I hear "boo" used to describe a person, it just makes me laugh. :DDDD
