I think that at the time, Jhonen invested a lot into the characters. He had a lot of episodes planned that focused on why Zim is the way his is (IE: never being accepted, etc) and more eps featuring him and Dib's accidental camaraderie. I'm glad Nick canceled it, because JCV really wasn't having fun anymore near the end, and for a show to be good, the guy in charge has to be enjoying the work. But I agree that there is a lot more to the show than most fans give it credit for (but then, like you said, most fans are in it for Gir and the stoopid hyumore that Jhonen always throws into his stuff to cover up the deeper messages). I wish Invader Zim fans and Jhonen fans in general weren't so idiotic and weird. I'm a huge fan of his but I always feel slightly embarrassed about it because I don't want to be pegged as one of "those" fans, and Jhonen truly hates most of his fans because they're so fucked up. I wish he knew that there are still some of us out there who don't want to be Johnny and don't refer to ourselves as Invaders. Ugh.

TL;DR: I agree with you anon, nice to see that I'm not the only one.
