20. I thought every movie past the first one sucked ... but I don't see how Elizabeth is any more of a Mary Sue than Will or Jack is a Gary Stu. Seriously, because she's female she's a Mary Sue and yet the male characters can do all the shit they do and no one says a word?

Seriously. I really don't understand why people pick on Elizabeth in particular when there are far bigger offenders of "Sue/Stu-ishness" standing right next to her. If she were male and played by Johnny Depp, I doubt fandom would have a problem with her.

I actually see Will as the most Gary Stu of them all. :P Good little boy, great fighter, troubled past, orphan, is in love with the princess or whatever. Jack, on the other hand, I think is pretty unique...I've never thought of him as a Gary Stu in the least, though I speak as a person that hasn't yet seen the 3rd movie.

I think people are just miffed at how she went from no skill governor's daughter to full on pirate-- although one could argue that Will did just the same, although to a lesser extent.

<< I didn't mind her all that much this movie, I think she got better than from the second, at least.

The secret poster wants realistic character development in a movie like Pirates of the Caribbean? These movies are meant to be outrageous. And considering the outrageous stunts that all the male characters are doing, why the focus on Elizabeth? Just because she's female?
