Secondly, while some places on the internet may be hostile to people asking questions about the game itself, not all of them are! I encourage you to find a place where you can be fearless about asking about the game and people can and will answer. (I can recommend you places if you PM me, or even just try to answer your questions myself.)
Thirdly, there are tons of good blogs and such out there where you can read how others feel about tactics and rules and "how your team is doing"; I particularly recommend pretty much every Offside blog: http://www.theoffside.com So go find the blogs that match your clubs and do your research! You'll learn soon enough.
Finally - and I probably should have put this first - different people get different things out of the beautiful game. I'm one of those who loves loves loves getting deep into tactical discussion, but also is happy to just flail at the emotions and squee and good-looking. But whatever makes you happy to watch is whatever makes you happy to watch, so just enjoy it for what it is! :) Good luck to you OP!
