Basically what everyone said. Disney didn't want to pay Amy Adams, even though they could've easily afforded it - it's just that Adams would've made more money from it than Disney. And Disney can't have that.

Still, as far as I'm aware, Giselle is one of the most popular Disney heroines among little girls ATM and she is considered a "real" Disney princess by many. Though I suspect the popularity has more to do with the pretty, long and blond hair (other top favorites are Cinderella, Aurora and Rapunzel, all of whom are blond - interestingly Alice is one of the least favorite heroines) than with the actual personality; which I think is a shame considering how much work and thought was put into Giselle's character, personality-wise.

You may well be onto something about the pretty blond ones being popular, anon, though Giselle is usually considered a red-head, because Amy Adams has red hair even though the cartoon is pretty much blond.

(Besides, Belle is totally my favorite and I choose to believe that everyone else loves her too.)

Good for her :) I think that's awesome, as red hair is lovely and there are already plenty of blonde princesses (not that blonde hair isn't lovely too, but you know. Diversity)
