I'm getting a little sick of straight girls whining about things like this.

You can still have fun with RP even if you're not planning to hook up with someone. In fact most people go in just or the fun of the game, and hooking up with someone is just a thing that happens on the side.

I'm not sure I even understand the secret/problem here....

WTH is even your problem? You're whining about the fact that you want in on fun that your not-straight friends are having because you are? Yeah, well, suck it up. You can't be interested in everything, nor can you have a part in everything. How is this even a problem?

You're aware, even relationships without sexual attraction can result in motherf-ing painful "break-ups", tears and disappointment... right? o_o If that's what you're looking for...

Also, you can still find your soulmate/one true same-sex BFF through RP... like, without "breaking up" with them later... which isn't nice or beautiful or anything like that, btw, but... duh.

This secret is intensely confusing to me. You're straight and not into RP, if you're not into RP then why does what they do and who they meet through RP an issue for you?

Unless you're saying you won't get into RP because you're straight then that's just silly. I don't RP but I have many friends who do and as far as I've gathered hooking up is not the sole reason most people RP at all and finding your "one true love" (lol) just happens regardless of if you're RPing or not. So... yeah. Not quite catching what this secrets about I guess.

I'm not sure I get this secret. It sounds more like you're insinuating that your friends weren't really lesbian, but just kind of 'prison-gay' because they spent most of their time RPing and turned to what was familiar, and then it of course exploded dramatically? I dunno, maybe I'm reading it wrong, but it just looks like you're trying to be smug? So, are you happy this happened to them, or envious, or what?

It may be more that you're feeling left out because people are forming relationships, in general, in your online community then that you're feeling left out by lesbian relationships specifically. With so many LJ RPers being female (I think, I don't have hard facts that the majority actually are), odds are in favor of any relationships forming between RPers being lesbian ones, but having friends form relationships while you're on your own can feel isolating no matter what the genders of the couples involved are.

Not everyone who RPs falls in love with their partners. Something that happened to me when I first stated RPing, and I was pretty young too, was that I was starting to project on my characters, or read into the things that they were experiencing. I had never experienced those things, and it became confusing to me when I started getting too invested in it.

Now, I'm not discounting that some people really DO fall for the people they RP with. My best friend is my RP partner, but we're just friends. It's different for everyone.

I guess what I'm saying is that you can't base your assumption of what RP would be like for you on what your friends are experiencing because it depends on so many things. What they are looking for, how mature they are, their ability to separate IC from OOC, and how well they know their RP partner outside of the game. All of these are a factor in why or how someone falls for someone else, and you just can't judge them all under the same lens.

I know how you feel, OP. Not straight, but before I had gotten into my first really close relationship, I always wished I knew how to RP with other people. I've always kind of gone on adventures as my favorite characters in my head, but I'm embarrassed to do it with other people. I guess I thought the "we're RP partners! you're the X to my Y! let's fall in love!" sort of thing would lead to someone getting me better than the dates I went on with people who I didn't have much in common with and couldn't talk about my interests to.

I still don't RP, but I did meet a pretty amazing girl through fandom though, so, ha. Here's hoping that you find your one true heterosexual love (as condescending as it sounds to attach orientation as a prefix to that, and as unlikely as you'd probably be to do it for straight love as well.)
