2. Does it really matter? A realistic drawing is no better than an anime one. It's just a style. Styles don't surpass each other, artistic ability does. I'd love to know how to draw realistically, but I don't think any less of my art just because it's in animu-style. Actually, I'm more concerned with improving backgrounds rather than changing my style.

It's my masterpiece.

2. Where did the poster say that s/he wanted to do a realistic style? S/he just said s/he wanted to do a style that wasn't the usual anime style.

I know I don't even really want a realistic style, as cool as that would be--I just want a style that I can be satisfied with, and most anime styles don't fit that criteria for me.

Oh, they didn't. I guess I worded it wrong, I wasn't implying that they did, I was just using it as an example!

2. Oh, it's not realism I strive for (I can do realism. boring) just an individual comic/animation type style that I can be recognized by. Like Albert Uderzo or Jean Tabary, though obviously I can't just copy them or I'll end up with a different unoriginal style.

In other words, my problem with my current style is that it's not very unique, not that it's not realistic.

Yeah, sorry. I forgot to mention I was just saying that as an example. xD;

Everyone has a hint of originality to their art. Someone said mine looked like Ken Akamatsu's... but I don't think so. Someone even said Megatokyo once jdhkasjhdds. Thing is, having a unique art style doesn't just have to do with your ability, it can be how you set up whatever you're drawing. That's how I see it, at least. I mean, what's more unique? A generic style with an interesting concept or a different style with a boring, overused concept?

Anyway, if you're not satisfied with your art style, it'll be hard to improve. But if you do like drawing you'll eventually improve and gain a unique style without even noticing. That's my reasoning, at least...

... just dropping by to say I love you for mentioning Uderzo and Tabary. ♥

That's Mion and Rena from Higurashi, yes? If that's true this icon is automatically better than a certain other few I've seen where I couldn't recognize that characters in it at ALL, even when I was told who they were.
