Yes, the show is good. The show is better than good. The show is awesome. But that dosen't mean that it's perfect, and you know, trust me it's not.

1) Yes, the show is called Sherlock. It's centered around Sherlock because that's the point of the show. But that is no excuse for not having properly developed female characters that have a larger stake in the plot. All the plot driving characters are male and that's a problem regardless of what people think and until it's addressed it will BE a problem.

(And while we're on female characters: Molly. I have more of an issue with how fandom sees her than how she's written. She IS actually stronger than people give her credit.)

2) The second episode is racist, full stop. I challenge ANYONE to defend the scenes set in ~china town~ that are clearly meant to look ~mysterious and dangerous~ because you can't without willful ignorance, you just can't.

3) I like this Moriarty. No complaints there.

I just think that sometimes Sherlock fandom is filled with people who are too afraid to actually take a clear look at the show and realise it's NOT perfect and it DOES have flaws and some pretty serious ones. The second you bring it up your told to stfu because NOONE cares about *anything* other than Sherlock and John. And I hate that.

2) Are there no other scenes in the show meant to look mysterious and dangerous? Or are all the other criminals tracked down in ball pits and yoga classes?

It's not done in the same way I don't think. With ~china town~ it was all stereotypical over the top Chinese music and dramatic cut aways that, to me, came across as LOOK AT THE SCARY CHINESE PEOPLE.

Oh god, the music, I'd suppressed that memory augh

There's a planetarium, the back of a cab, a few museums, a few private residences, a car dealership, a swimming pool...

So, yeah, basically. While the planetarium is dark (for obvious reasons), the criminals are otherwise in places that you don't associate with mysterious and dangerous.

You can't tell me that swimming pool wasn't meant to look mysterious and dangerous too.

Then again, I can't swim.

Swimming pool at midnight. That could go either way, given I've never seen a swimming pool that was open that late.

Which, how the hell did everyone get in there? And where was Sherlock's coat? That's always going to bother me. Did he take it off before stepping through that door? Why would he do that?

Well, he could have taken it off beforehand to have more mobility or easier access to the gun.

Though it's probably just because it made for a ~dramatic~ scene. And he loves those quite a bit.

I used to belong to a health club that was open 24 hours and it had an attached pool area that was open all hours; in fact, one of my favorite things to do for the two months I was unemployed was to go over at 2 in the morning and sit in the hot tub next to the pool with a book.
